In January 2007 we have first shown you the Virago Coupé. Equipped with a 3-litre V6 Duratec engine with two output choices, 230 hp and 280 hp, the car would be sold for a price below £ 50,000 and was expected to reach the market in few years. In April 2008 the same car will appear at Top Marques Monaco and has a more defined date to debut: first quarter of 2009. What is holding the development of the production version of the car? Investors.

“We have some interested investors, but most UK investors consider it high risk - they are very conservative. That is why we are taking the car to Top Marques Monaco, to widen the interest. Therefore I can not yet give production dates, but I am hoping for Q1 2009, said Eric Linkman, from Virago Cars, to World Car Fans.

The new sports car will be able to reach speeds of up to 240 km/h and to strike 96 km/h in 5.5 s, but no other information, such as length, weight or any other technical spec is available for consultation right now. “The only specifications we are releasing in detail are those already on the web, as they are subject to change, said Linkman.

These numbers may not seem very eye-catching, but they are reasonable, considering the car’s goals. “Virago is not aimed at the 'ultimate-power' buyer, but rather at those looking for a stunning, reliable, practical, yet fast and fun, daily sports coupé. As such, it’s a very interesting proposition alongside many of the supercars which will be at the Monaco show, said Andy Nowson, Managing Director of Virago Cars.

Prices are now expected to reach € 70,000 and the investment required to finalise development and initial production of the Virago Coupé will be € 7.5 million. There would be no better place for the Coupé to find an investor than Monaco, but this place may also reveal that the sports car market may be more crowded than we think. We’ll only know if there is room for another one in the upcoming months.

Stunning Sports Car at Monaco Supercar Show

For the first time outside the UK, visitors to the international Top Marques supercar show in Monaco will be able to glimpse a stunning sports car which will be built in the Midlands region of the UK, the historic home of British prestige sports cars.

Virago Cars is to show the two seat coupe which has its roots in a sports race car, at Top Marques Monaco which will be held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco from 24th to 27th April. The fifth edition of the live supercar show is the only one in the world which stars the most beautiful and powerful machines on the planet; a panoramic display of beauty, speed, technology, craftsmanship, and sheer passion.

Virago is a high tech/race bred sports car which will fill a niche in the automotive market, selling for around €70,000 and will be refined, comfortable and practical for everyday use. A revised interior is in design currently which will be best in class, with some interesting extra technology features for driver and passenger, and superior to anything else at the price.

A 3 litre Duratec V6 engine produces 230bhp in base vehicle form, rising to 280bhp in Sports form which will provide reliability and easy low cost servicing. Performance figures suggest a top speed in excess of 150mph and an acceleration time to 60mph in less than 5.5 seconds, delivered through a 6 speed manual gearbox.

The space frame chassis coupled with the composite monocoque body shell gives a lightweight and strong package with superb stiffness and handling. Managing Director, Andy Nowson, a former Land Rover executive and vehicle product planner said: “Virago is not aimed at the 'ultimate-power' buyer, but rather at those looking for a stunning, reliable, practical, yet fast and fun, daily sports coupé. As such, it’s a very interesting proposition alongside many of the supercars which will be at the Monaco show.

“Creating and building this car is a great opportunity, not only to deliver an exciting product to discerning customers, but also in establishing a new iconic brand along the way. We will be establishing new manufacturing facilities to start low-volume build early 2009.

Virago is recruiting dealers in the UK to sell and service the car, and taking overseas enquiries.

Virago requires c €7.5M to finance final development, ‘productionisation’, tooling, and facilities, to move from bespoke build to factory low-volume production, and investor enquires are welcome.
