Good point Keithxp. It would also create way more traffic and parking nightmares from 61 St. and up (still a large chunk of the city). But this was only the city council's approval, it'f far from being enacted. What do they plan to do with all the revenue?

Furthermore, the quote that New Yorker's are "sick and tired of our streets being clogged with traffic" is ridiculous. If you don't like traffic move to the country. Are you sick of the sidewalks being clogged with people, and all those tall buildings blocking the sun too?

Im with "illest813" & "Ben-zo". Where are these kids that are "fighting to breathe"? What New Yorker is "Sick & tired" of these "clogged" streets? Its been this way for longer than anyone who lives below 60th St has been there! Im sure you noticed the congestion before you chose to move downtown. I am curious though... Exactly how do they plan to charge this "fee" at every point where you can enter Manhattan below 60th St??? If you know NY, you'll know why Im curious..

i live in London and we have congestion charging. to answer your question, they have cameras fitted on most of the roads into the city and more within the city whihc have automatic plate recognition. they check against computers to check against a database that you have already paid the charges before you enter.
I just looked on Google Earth at NY and trust me there wont be any problem at all in getting it implemented - i can count the roads into NY.. now look at London!

What do you expect from a totalitarian global socialist system but demagogy and repression to feed their police state? Automobiles are the contemporary symbol of freedom by excellence, so first they'll blame it on pollution; when cars become virtually non-polluting they'll come up with congestion excuses, and by the time this becomes the norm, you'll realize your very last freedom has gone. Fuc*ing collectivist slime.
