Reaching a million milestone is no mean feat for any single model for any brand, let alone a particular generation of that model. Audi has done it though, yesterday the Ingolstadt factory produced its millionth second generation Audi A3. The 140 hp 2.0 TDI anniversary Sportback was finished in a Brilliant Red paint and is destined to a German customer.
“Its outstanding premium quality makes the Audi A3 a convincing competitor in its class, and it has played a key role in redefining the compact class,” notes Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management for Production of AUDI AG.
In 1996 Audi started production at Ingolstadt of their A3 compact car and the factory has since then churned out 1,9 million units, just over 230,000 in 2007 alone and over 800 a day. In 2007, Audi's Brussels plant also started production of the A3 while Audi's Hungarian Györ plant will be building the new Audi A3 Cabriolet.
