Classic Video: BMW 507

Undoubtedly beautiful

Its not just new and future cars that we are interested in here at WorldCarFans. Check out this excellent period video on the exquisite BMW 507. It has some lovely imagery and of the 507 when it was new in the 50’s.

Designed by Albert von Goertz, the 507 was supposed to be the dawn of a new age in sportiness for the Bavarian automaker, instead it nearly took BMW to the brink of bankruptcy. Only 252 examples were built and BMW reputedly lost money on every one of them despite the high price tag which varied between $9,000 to $10,500 USD, and this remember was 50 years ago!

The 507 was equipped with an all alloy 3.2L V8 at 150/160hp, not bad for the day but acceleration is lethargic compared to modern vehicles with sixty miles an hour passing in 10 seconds. But 507’s are not purchased for their performance, it is the beautifully sculptured, hand beaten aluminium body work that catches the eye. The 507 is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful designs in history. Enjoy the video.

The most beautiful BMW ever built. Albrecht Graf von Goertz was the best designer BMW had in their whole history and this is his best car.

dang....this really makes me miss the z8...probably the most beautiful car in bmw's modern era. Just the pure emotion of the lines exuding from its looks, the z8, as the high mark of bmw at the time, beats out anything we have nowadays (maybe except for the competizone 8c). I'm just hoping that tata will put the jaguar f-type into production....technological rudimentary is sooo played...
