Geely Headed Upmarket

The 10th edition of the Auto China car show will be taking kicking off on April 20 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. As is customary with all major car shows, new car rumors start the day the show fixes the dates, and this time Geely finds itself in the spotlight.

Geely, known for their low-cost cars, is headed upmarket with this new Geely GT, also referred to as the Geely Tiger. In a press release from last week, Geely announced that they will bring 23 models (and their derivatives) to the 2008 Auto China show, among which the Geely TG-1, A3, LG-3, FC-3, etc and has two days ago released a press release in Chinese announcing the Geely GT Concept. Geely said: 'The year 2008 holds great significance for Geely’s Internationalization, strategic transform and overall elevation of the competitiveness of Geely Brand.'

The Geely GT Concept is headlining at the Geely display, alongside 10 other Geely models. Geely chairman mr. Li Shufu said that the company will show a solid foundation and self-confidence, referring to the 4.9 meter long GT concept as a 'small Rolls-Royce', and comparing it to the Lorus Elise.

Geely also explains the differing logo on the hood of the GT concept, saying that the future of high-end models would not be possible without one. Which can only mean that Geely has a new brand in mind for its high-end customers, allowing the Geely brand to focus on the low-end models. The Geely GT should be seen in context to international R&D model development.

Some very odd detailing on this car. Perhaps this defines the difference between Western and Chinese tastes.

bloody hell, this is beautiful. yeah some detailing is a bit heavy handed. the profile is stunning and the rear lights genuinely original and fabulously executed. mark my words it may be a few decades before they will be rivalling the best of them, but they will do it im sure. well done Geely.

It is very nice for a Chinese car, it reminds me of the Exelero a little bit although this seems much better executed.

guau, if chinese are able to go this fast also with quality standards, and market their image and reputation properly, it won´t take long before we see western car makers sweating to keep up with the attacks coming from far east. just see how the korean are coming... a bit overdone in the front end, but still astonishingly beautiful. well done geely

i haven't seen things so beautifull long time on WCF. Amazing shapes. This concept has something very attractive but i don't know what exactly.

I like it. For some reason though, the side shot keeps screaming "Buick". I wonder if those are the same batch of Chinese designers that outfitted a certain Buick model for the U.S. Hmmmm.

I like it, the design and shape are really nice, it's round but sharp at the same time i like that. The only thing i think ruins the car is the grill.

Really don't see any acute ressemblance with the Exelero, this is much better balanced, even beautiful from 3/4 view, but the front end is horrendous. Nice potential for once...

its different and i like it, classic gt lines, very agressive front end (some like it, some don't). i would really like to know what kind of powertrain the car has, and the drag coefficient and so forth... i need more pictures :)

This will make quite a stir if they manage to throw together a physical model before the show! That grill is absolutely repulsive, but that is redeemed by its overall attractive proportions. I especially like the chrome trim encircling the side windows that entirely ignores the A-pillar and slips past the edge of the door onto the fender rearward of the wheels. And that trim around the tail lamps are akin to the tracks of fire Doc's DeLorean Time Machine left in the sky; a fast, sharp change in direction embossed in chrome. Overall, this is a damn sight better than that POS Geely Coupe.

wow, amazing that china can make this kind of car.... what about the interior, build quality, spesification, and durability?????

Don't like the grille, but the rear 3/4(sort of) view is really nice.

i'm so proud our auto manufacturer's success in worldwide. no matter its a nice car or repulsive car, the point is mostly people discuss about a chinese car. i think geely as a milestone that we prepared to entre oversea markets.
