Taking on the Scirocco
With rumors a plenty in the automotive industry, German car-mag AutoBild fuels the fire in their upcoming issue. They will publish the first renderings of what a new Ford Capri might look like.
A CarSpyShots reader posted some of the first speculations about the Scirocco competitor. Autobild thinks that the 2+2 concept car may make a 2009 Frankfurt IAA show debut with production starting in 2012. The VW Scirocco has of course recently made its world debut in production guise, leaving Ford well behind if this time line is indeed correct.
The photoshops of the Ford Capri may look good, but we sincerely doubt how much of the design is believable. The front lacks most of Ford's new kinetic design language, but it is nice to see that the rear has been strongly influenced by Giugiaro's Mustang concept. The (most likely) dummy side vents even made it onto the renderings, but we are not expecting Ford's new global rear-wheel-drive platform to be featured underneath the Capri.
Only time will tell whether Ford indeed has plans to revive the Capri.
