Highest quality design

One of the most prestigious and sought-after awards in the world has been won by the new Honda Accord Tourer (for Europe). The 51st International Red Dot Award for high design quality now belongs to the sharp Accord Tourer. This is actually the third time Honda has received the nod on this particular award, the first being for Honda 2000 in 2001 and Civic in 2006.

Entries numbered over 3,000 for this time, coming from far far away places – none off the planet though – numbering 51 countries to be exact.

Prof. Dr Peter Zec, Initiator of the red dot design awards, said: “Faced with the greater number of high-quality products, our international jury of acknowledged experts this year found the task of selecting the winner to be particularly challenging. This distinction explicitly acknowledges your creativity and innovative drive, and pays tribute to the high quality standards of your product.”

The future for these awards will be even more challenging as automotive design moves into the next phase where consolidation is key, at the same time consideration for safety, environment, more performance comes to the fore.

Actually, this can be quite relevant in boosting sales, now that honda have this award, they can proudly show it off.

the germans penner and benzian are offended by the verdict ? sweet! *lol* honestly: the honda is a pretty good looking car - looks much better than a crappy c-class or a crinky singleframed audi? *bwahahaha* :D

Crappy C-class? Apparently your area is so poor you only get to see recent benzes on magazines and the internet. The Civic deserved to win back then but not this car, which bears zero-level innovation. It could be a Mazda6 or a Mondeo estate.

It seems a shame that Honda will not be bringing this particular touer to the USA. Fuel prices are rising dramatically, and American drivers are second-guessing that big SUV they bought a few years ago... A minivan seems gutless and dull, and a sedan, even an Accord, lacks utility space. This Accord Tourer could possible be a hit - good size, good looks, and better fuel economy than an SUV. Heck, Honda ould even drop on one of their excellent European-market diesels, make it 50-state legal, and corner the wagon market. Thoughts?

This is not a bad looking car, but I don't understand how this can be called "high quality design" when you have the likes of the pitiful few Mercedes Benzes that are actually pretty and the Maserati Gran Turismo, along with so many other cars that are innovative in design. The article says nothing about the price of a car, so I would assume that it is not a factor in deciding who gets this award but seriously, this looks like a slightly refreshed 5 series tourer (does anyone else notice the blatant resembelance of the recent Accord sedan to the 5 series sedan as well?). The bodyline, the front headlights that slant backwards, the slant right before the D pillar. um. I think we've all seen that before somewhere. If this car got this 'prestigious' award, I wonder why the 5 series touring didn't instead. I see nothing innovative about the design either; it just conforms to the standards of modern design. But what about the Maserati Gran Turismo? It defies standard conventions and is certainly something that we don't see in everyday design. Unless of course.. Honda had a sufficient enough bribe to alter these people's verdicts. And why do people get so offended when other people diss German cars. You know..people are entitled to their opinions.

thing is one has to enter the contest and transportation is only one category of 20 or so. they did a good job and you can't allways have the audi or bmw ro 911 on the podest, that would render the contest local german and not international. I guess maserati just didn't consider it worth entering...

just double checked, there are several levels and the 'best of the best' was awarded to the TGX/TGS MAN Truck. So Honda won a merit award and there is little to brag about. the civic won the best of price in 06 as well as, sit down, the mercedes R class or teh renault megane in 03.. http://en.red-dot.org/300.html
