Maybach 62 Landaulet could possibly become the very last model from Maybach, if Daimler decides to end the ultra-luxury line in the years to come. Sales and growth have been poor in recent times compared to rival brands Rolls-Royce and Bentley, with merely 146 units sold last year (10% of the original projected amount). For this reason, Daimler CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche says it could end soon before the situation goes worse.
He also added that no plans for new models are at hand currently, and even the recently launched Landaulet is not expected to bring any better luck. It will not be a huge loss to abruptly quit the industry in terms of investment, simply because the Maybach 57 and 62 sedans were largely based on the previous generation Mercedes S-Class.
Despite the unhelpful facts above, Maybach still believes that it has done a good job so far. Dr. Dieter claims that the brand has proven that it can compete productively with Rolls-Royce and Bentley.
