How Infiniti FX50 Got Down From the Sky in Geneva

Straight into Europe’s Arms

Infiniti’s introduction to Europe, at the Geneva Motor Show, was way above Geneva standards. Not only because it was a nice presentation, but literally because the Infiniti FX50 came from the ceiling (or the sky, as we have referred to it in the title) to be seen, photographed and filmed by journalists from all over the world. Infiniti has also filmed the presentation and made this movie available so that we could show you exactly how it was.

In fact, Europe will receive the second generation Infiniti FX50, equipped with a 5-litre V8 engine, called VK50VE, that generates 390 cv and 500 Nm. Matted with a seven speed automatic transmition, this vehicle has all possibilities to cause a very good impression to Old World customers, once it is recognised by great built quality and competitive prices, besides the striking looks.

Anyway, the Infiniti FX50 is a 4.80 m long and 1.93 m wide vehicle, what it adequate for the USA, but perhaps too big for European streets. Let’s check on how this SUV is going to be received when its sales start, in the second half of 2008.

hah Enjoyed how it "annihilates" the agents of evil as it's "sent" from above... As I said, the best looking SUV ever. And if diesel engines take too long, I'll simply get the 5.0 V8! Too big for Europe? Think again: the A6 Avant/Allroad seen everywhere in western cities is nearly 15cm longer, and the nearly ubiquitous/bestseller Q7 is around 30cm longer + 5cm wider.

Biodiesel = irelevant if you want to buy this in Europe as its made in Japan which means the carbon footprint to ship it over to Europe by FAR exceeds what a car would in its entire lifetime.

What do you mean irrelevant? Since they are all made in Japan all would have the same shipping carbon footprint so if you get a biodiesel it would have less of a footprint than the petrol as the shipping footprints would negate when its compared to the biodiesel ver. It seems like cars have become the scapegoat for all the toxins in the atmosphere, in reality the major polluters are ignored. You ask why? Well because we as civilians own cars, so they have now something new to tax us on. Does any of the $ we pay in extra taxes on a large petrol go towards research of new more efficient technology or reversing the damage? NO. The real problem is industry, airplanes, and large boats which practically have no emission standards even though they create more toxins and greenhouse gasses. Why aren't they taxed? Refineries should be taxed the same as us, not too hard to calculate how many greenhouse gases they produce per tonne of gasoline.

...Not to mention current orwellian military clandestine operations in the ionosphere. I never heard of a biodiesel version, though. If anything, it will be getting a modern 3.0/3.5 V6 turbodiesel tuned by Renault. And it's not so much for fuel efficiency: price tag will be considerably lower, not to mention taxes, insurance, and the fuel price itself. V8's pluses: sound, performance, smoothness...

Some people are just too negative with their carbon footprint hypocrisy! It's taken this long for Infiniti to hit UK officially because of this same snobbish attitude to Japanese car brands. Why is Rover/MG now in Nanjing's hands and Lexus winning youth markets?

BMW should be worried about the FX SUV series in terms of build quality, sharp-suited design and biodiesel engine alternatives. Partnership with Renault is breathing new life into Nissan/Infiniti's corporate confidence. That's what I call top-end competition.
