Still over a year away, the next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, code-named W212 is expected to make its debut in a year and a half at the Frankfurt Motor Show. First seen with less camouflage over one week ago, here are the latest photos taken close to Mercedes’ headquarters in Stuttgart but this prototype is sporting different wheels and a standard roof as opposed to the panoramic roof spotted on the first prototype.

The next E-Class will offer the typical wide range of engines in Europe starting with a 4 cylinder petrol engine with 184 hp up to an 544 hp V8. Gaining more importance than ever, the diesels range of engines starts with a 136 hp 4 cylinder up to a 354 hp V8. Unfortunately, consumers interested in a hybrid version will have to wait a year later as the E-Class is expected to be released with a diesel hybrid engine like the current E 300 BLUETEC hybrid which makes 224 hp from a 3.0 litre V6 and a 15kW electric engine with an integrated start generator.

Really weak, as have been all of their recent designs. The new C is average compared to the new A4, The E looks weak compared to the effort made by Jaguar's latest and lacks BMW's character. The CLC is total crap. The SL update is weak also. The S Class, CL and CLS are the only good cars still left in the lineup. Even their quality sucks Mercedes has fallen a long way of the competition and is relying alot on its past/heritage. I hope the upcoming SLC is a great car though. I used to love Mercedes cars these recent cars are changing my mind. Shame

You don't, there are already renderings everywhere (if you're bothered to look) which replicate almost all of the details.

With those new bigger wheels on the car, it does look like a better car when compare to the last spy shot we got. I am still not very convince about the split headlight. But I guess its a norm for the E-Class now. When it debut I will decide if I want the XF or this. I know this will be a techno gizmo when compared to the XF. But I think the Jag will be a younger car. I hope to see the interior shot soon as well as some Nurburgring tests.
