A member from the Camaro5 forums was able to catch a glimpse of an undisguised Camaro mule undergoing evaluation. According to photographer Corey R, the car features 20-inch wheels fitted to 245 front and 275 rear tires. Wearing a hood scope from the Corvette Z06, it appears likely this particular mule is powered by a V8 engine. The engineers asked the photographer not take pictures of the interior, yet several shots show minor interior details.

Production of the new Camaro is set to begin in early 2009 with sales starting soon after. Expected engine offerings include a 3.6L V6 and 6.0L V8.  In the Pontiac G8 sedan the V6 produces 256hp and 248lb-ft of torque while the V8 cranks out 361hp and 385lb-ft of torque.

I take back what I said about the Challenger being far more desirable- it is a hot car, but this is as nice in a different way- more contemporary... really muscular

Very nice car...probably the best example of pulling the retro thing off...something very un-camaro about the back of this car though...

Still looks like a plastic toy to me and i can tell its going to be half assed like all gms, they didn't even make the vents on the rear quarter pannel real, they are just dents. The brakes look like they belong on a mountain bike. Challenger any day over the camaro.

You must ride a gnarly mountain bike.

why would you want vents in the back? its a front engine car, and if youre gonna vent the braking system better do it upfront.. it's true those brakes dont look hot, but this prototype isn't the high performance top of the range (SS?) version meant to beat the Mustang Shelby either, which will get perforated and bigger discs for sure.. plus these wheels being 20" make them appear even smaller than what they are

They look like 14" in the front and 12" in the back with single piston calipers in the back and 2 piston in the front. Nothing too exciting. The camaro never beat a shelby car with the exception of the Yanko but that was a tuner car. Nothing about this car is exciting, it has been in the works longer than the Veyron was and looking at it now it's like it took you that long to come up with this? Wow it will have a down-tunned vette 6L V8 as if that was something new, it's the same as 5.7L it used to have back in 1998. So what has all this wait been for? No new technology, fake vents, plastic dash, what does this car offer that's special. It's a disgrace to GM that it took them this long to come up with this car. How much has the M3 evolved in the last 6 years or the S4/RS4, C55-63, this is just another piece of junk from GM that has taken them 6 years to push out.

that might be true but i dont see the mustang or non-hemi challengers (best looking outside/worst inside) as more innovative either, and it's unfair to expect the sort of engineering wizardry found on german top of the range versions costing more than twice the price, equally affecting its other two american rivals.. thankfully gm management has changed since 1998, they dared the impressive zr1, theres no reason they wouldnt release a SS version based on the z06, lowered with lsd and improved braking system

Hey Radmeister, just so you know... the small block V-8 has changed considerably since 1998.

The Camaro is based on the same platform as the new Cadillac CTS, which 3.6 V6 provides 306hp...

You mean the holden ve/zeta platform.... the CTS is based off the sigma platform.

And the base engine in the Caddy is the same as the Camaros. Eventually, the direct injection 3.6 will supplant all of the port-injected 3.6s. Including the one in the Camaro.

This car has a great design . But what about technology ?? Iam not sure it can match up with Germans ,but let's wait and see .

Radmeister must you post negative comments on nearly every single story? haven't you got anything better to do like club baby seals in Canada.

Pity that Americans still choose to live in the past making powerplants that the rest of the world refuses to buy and more and more Americans refuse as well. Where is American ingenuity....outsourced to India?
