yeah but the oval eyes look so dated now, this is a much needed makeover. the new c and s are great and hopefully the new e looks good.

guess it'll grow on me then...
its just a little akward... the lines of those front lights.... the rest of the car is perfect

They always use Mercedes .... Why ?? JUST BECAUSE ITS GERMAN MADE .
March 8, 2008 3:18 am
I don't understand really what's so cool about german cars. To me it's only Merc and BMW who are performing well in all areas. The rest is crap (including Audi). What's important is that this SL AMG looks just great!

It's not because is Germany made, but because Mercedes Benz is the inventor of the car and the reason why F1 exist. Only Mercedes Benz has that honour. I think Mercedes should be responsible for all future safety cars. Mercedes Benz for life!

Oh god... Iceman... first of all Mercedes Benz as a person was Karl Benz's daughter... second of all Automobiles of various sorts had been made by numerous people over the century before Karl made his first one. So he didn't invent squat... what Karl did however is make the first production automobiles. Finally... as to formula 1... Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes Benz and Maserati were the first competitors in formula one. But Ferrari would be a bigger reason why F1 exists... after all MB stopped racing for a good 38 years (between 1955-1993). Blast... I wish I didn't care as much to research all that stuff, but whenever I see a post so blatantly biased with nobody correcting you... well lets just say it is a wrong that must be righted.

i agree with iceman but also can be the m5 or the z4m or m6 i think...

mickey_f1,
stop speaking from your ass. You are stating things which are not based on Facts. BMW and Audi are in the spotlight, Mercedes is going downhill due to failing electronics, body panel problems and inferior quality in their cars.
March 8, 2008 11:12 am
I don't think Mercedes is going quite downhill. The only electronic problems that I've heard about are from the E-class, but other than that, I don't know. Mercedes, Audi and BMW are all equally doing very well. They all have their user base, which is very different from manufacturer to manufacturer. I'm sure you can list many models from all 3 manufacturers which are doing well on the market.

MB is doing really well there was an article on WCF about their posted profits for 2007, if you look they are quite impressive. They are coming back from a dark age in their quality, chrysler screwed them up but now MB is coming back with a vengeance and you can tell this from their new models, the aggressive styling and technological advancements cannot be beat. For god's sake the doors on the CL are a marvel. When you pull the leaver the window goes down slightly so that it comes out of the seal, and when you close the door you don't have to close it just pull it until it touches the body and it closes and seals by itself and the window goes up. That is friggen COOL.

I'd agree that MB is improving greatly...not too long ago nobody would actually buy a MB, they would only lease due to fear of the inevitable problems and hefty shop bills...prospective buyers would even say that they knew full well the car was garbage, they just couldn't bring themselves to drive anything without a 3 pointed star on it. This is not so much the case anymore, MB quality control has made an abrupt 180 and is starting to give MB drivers that sense of pride they once had...As for the doors on a CL...are they cool? Yes very...a marvel may be a bit of an overstatement...the windows on my 350z as well as a bunch of other cars do that, and the trunks on Lincoln town cars from the early 90's closed like that along with the hatches on current day Cadillac Escalades and other SUVs. MB just put the two together...Cool as they may be, as I've said in other posts about MBs, their innovations are utterly pointless, it all seems like just a gimicky gadget.

From the first photos a few weeks ago i didnt like the headlights too much, but wow in these photos they look mean, i must admit it i like em.
March 8, 2008 2:20 pm
The problem with the old/new SL is that the rear overhang is a bit too long, making it akward to look at in the cheaper models.
March 8, 2008 8:59 pm
I have to say that the SL63 is awesome and cant wait to take delivery on mine. I bet they will look even hotter in person as is the case of many cars.and radmeister is right the headlights look mean!!

Joe_Limon: Try to read the story again, and point out the bit where the person "Mercedes-Benz" exists, and furthermore as Karl Benz daughter! Thanks.
3iceman: you are the man! :D
About the car, I must say that I like it more each time I look at it! Can't wait to see it next sunday on tv :P

"Mercedes Benz is the inventor" this statement implies that his daughter invented the car. In reality Karl Benz named the brand after his daughter to ensure good fortune (aka luck). Iceman said nothing about this, I was merely correcting him.
March 10, 2008 1:18 pm
@Joe_LIMON
dude!!:O Mercedes was not the daughter of Karl Benz at all...

March 10, 2008 3:21 am
yes, yes Mercedes was... go to your page. Press ctrl-f type in daughter and read that paragraph...
March 10, 2008 1:19 pm
my bad... the wiki page sucks, it doesn't say whose daughter it was. It was Emil Jellinek, but wikipedia doesn't say so.
