Why not. I like the idea rather than the sound, but 170hp diesel on a car this light seems good. But: Euro 5 diesels still aren't so-so clean.

Waouh, I'm dreaming. How can they speak about this car saying it is a sport car ! And produce it even in roadster version...The coupe makes sens, but don't associate it with sport please !

Diesel engined cars will never be a sports cars.A true sports car uses Petrol engine only. Diesel engines are for passenger or commercial cars/trucks.

it's just a slow revolution...someday most of the cars will be diesel powered, also sport cars. Many people don't like it, but it's the way it have to be. Modern diesel engines combine comparable power with a much greater fuel economy. Especially if You want to use Your car for everyday use, it is very important. So why not combine the beauty of a sports car (like this TT) with a modern economic engine. Btw. why won't they put a 3.0 TDI in it as well?

Btw. why won't they put a 3.0 TDI in it as well? The 3.0 TDI is bigger than the 3.2 FSI that fits in the TT. The TT hasn't much place under the hood. The 3.0 TDI would have been to big for that car. Second: Sportcars will allways use the most efficient kind of motor that you can get: If you get good efficience torque curves and rotation numbers from diesel-engines it is just logical to use them in sportcars. Nowadays Diesel/Diesel-hybrid are the most efficient engine systems and it is just sensible to use them. Sooner or later electrical will be the most efficient solution. In 15-25 years batteries will be far enough that no one will miss the old cars with internal combustion engines.

People sleep on oil-burners, but advancements in fluid dynamics and injection/turbo technology really have made them viable in sporty applications. Diesel will continue to lead the way in internal combustion till HCCI takes over.

@nickkop Can tell you when they're bringing it to the US .. pry never. Because of people like "car" here, thats what most americans think of diesels .... Diesel in a TT is awesome ... id take any V6 or V8 diesel over a petrol one nowadays, the sound, performance and efficiency is just awesome ! It took vw/audi about 15 years to bring the first real diesels into the Jetta, Touareg, Q7 and so on ... its gonna take forever to bring it in a TT ...
