A new mini-site with Scirocco written all over it has been launched by the car’s makers Volkswagen as a teaser for the upcoming sports coupe's fans. You have to register while agreeing to give up most of your personal privacy, in order to enter the site, but once in there isn’t much in terms of visual stimulation. Well not enough to whet our tongues anyway. The suspicion is then that Geneva will see a full-scale version of the car, and then a Euro launch towards the end of 2008.

VW Group engine 2.0 TFSI looks like it has won the battle and will be offered with the Scirocco. Plus you can still look at the excellent rendering done here months ago. It would be tragic if we had to wait for New York to see this thing in the metal, but Geneva sounds like the place to be so far.

why go thru all these hassles when the scirocco won't be sold overseas???

in germany the scirocco name has a really bad vibe to it... almost as bad as the opel manta...

The Corrado is a lot worse.

Scirocco was the people's sports thing.

give up your most personal of details to enter a mini site? what utter shite. exactly what is the point? who's bright idea was that? any car company that goes to such secrecy lengths only makes itself pathetic, when tha car in question is finally revealed, to a muted silence. just show us the bloody thing!

I doubt this will be twin charged, the 2.0L is a great engine as shown by the TT-S, it doesn't need both and in fact it would make it slower from the extra weight and stress on the engine. Nissan has been using twin charging for a few years now over in japan on their super small displacement I4s like 1.3 or 1.4L, i suspect VW will do the same and use this technology in small displacement I4s. The 2L has enough exhaust pressure to spool up at a decently low RPM so a S/C would just drain power pointlessly. I think twin charging would be most beneficial for diesels as they have enough low end torque to spin that S/C at idle and create boost, then the Turbo kicks in and the S/C is disengaged.

I must admit that jntara's theory sounds more realistic. There is no need to change the already well-known name. If this is a TSI instead of a TFSI, then there's some real reason behind the change.

The 1.4 TSI already delivers170PS, so a 200hp 2.0 TFSI may turn into the less powerful version of VAG's 2.0. I'm guessing this top-spec Scirocco 2.0 TSI will be more powerful than the Golf R32 because of a twincharger. A TT-RS might get it too.

The name TFSI is dead! VW will be use "TSI" for all its turbocharged engines ;) TFSI will only be used by Audi! The MkV GTI has the same engine as the Scirocco. The 2.0 TFSI, now called 2.0 TSI with 200bhp.
