Why mention the artega gt? you could have said any number of sports cars. wouldn't it have been better to mention the toyota mr-s?

That was mid-engined. The 911 and Artega are they only rear engined sports cars around currently - and you can hardly clai mit is something new on the 911! By the way, if Rover had had their way rather than BMW, the current MINI would be rear engined too. I think the Mitsubishi i and Smart share the configuration too.

The MR2 is Mid-engined the engine is inside the wheelbase) not rear-engined as the Lupo will be. The rear engine give more space efficiency. It also makes it easier to engineer for different powerpacks (including Hybrid or full electric).
