Chrysler 300C SRT Diesel on the way for Europe

Chrysler 300C SRT Diesel on the way for Europe
Chrysler 300C SRT diesel for Europe / Chrysler

Super American diesel?

“If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” was a business motto someone told once a long time ago. For 300C, the badge SRT has previously meant HEMI V8 displacing 6100cc and power of 317kW. Surprisingly today it only means 3.0-litre 218 bhp/ 163kW and 376lb ft of torque. No V12/ V10 or even V8 super diesel to sniff of at this time.

Has Chrysler tamed the SRT monster? No. This is the SRT diesel version, which uses the same 3.0-litre CRD motor but gets loads of facelift with bits like a bootlid spoiler, new rear light cluster sat nav with 20GB drive, and extra LED lights. So all dressed up with nowhere to go then? Seems that way. Thankfully for those hankering for real SRT performance, you’ll be pleased to know that only Europe is getting this particular 300C SRT.

Just look at the panel fit on that thing! You could get in without opening the doors.

The article never spoke about a SRT"8" version, only a SRT one. Anyway, this idea sucks.

American cars like those in Europe are just wasted time. The quality is "light-years" from european standards, assistance is weak and styling is boring. Engines are too "big", so fuel consumption is too high. With new cars like the great Citroen C5, BMW, Audi and others, there is no way that rubbish 300C is going to sell here. No contest... european and japanese cars are more affordable, way more efficient and safe. The 2007 Voyager got 2 stars out of 5 (EuroNcap crach test). That's not bad, it's embarrassing!

Comparing BMW, Merc, and Audi build quality and technology to Chrysler 300C SRT8 is silly, you get what you pay for, yes, interior quality isnt the same, economy is bad (but what do you expect with 425hp and 500nm in a single cam pushrod engine) but the price you pay for it more than makes up for it. The thing you can compare is driving experience and thats what matters to me, not the number of valves or the type of leather used or the fit of the panels. ANd dont forget that the 300C is Austrian designed, and mine is built there too, and shares many parts with the previous e-class merc. You get 90% of the quality for less than half the price, in my mind it makes sense. I own an SRT8 300C and it is an amazing car for the money. For comparable horsepower and year model you are looking at more than twice the money in a euro car. That is alot. And for $20,000AU extra i will have a car that will stand up to any M3, M5, AMG or audi S whatever in both handling and power, full upgraded suspension, bracing, coil-overs, with about 700hp and 700nm of torque. Find me a euro car that can compare for the money...
