The sale of Jaguar and Land Rover has yet to be completed, but that hasn’t stopped Tata Motors from preparing to make major changes at the companies. According to a source familiar with the negotiations, “Jaguar will be spun off almost immediately.”

British labor unions supported Jaguar’s sale to Tata over rival bids from fellow Indian automaker Mahindra & Mahindra and an American private equity firm. Both companies could eventually attempt to buy Jaguar from Tata should these reports become true. Recently Tata purchased 450 acres of land outside New Delhi, where the source says Land Rover production will be relocated.

Ford announced Tata Motors was the preferred buyer of Jaguar and Land Rover back in January and the sale could be completed in the next few weeks.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good. Land Rover is a global brand so it is quite feasible that production could be shifted elsewhere for at least some of the models and it not effect sales (assuming quality is maitained). Maybe Fiat as a purchaser of Jaguar?

land rover is done. this is just one guys opinion, but all it would have taken is a little engineering to get the defender airbag compliant in the US. if they did it right they could take a BIG bite out of jeep's territory with the diesels. oh well. RIP land rover.

I don't ford ran them into the ground, sales and profits were up that's why they were able to sell em for much more than they bought em.

It would be a crying shame if Jaguar died just when it's produced a really great car. Did the labour unions realise this would happen when they approved TATA? I guess not, we've been tricked.

Looks like they want both brands killed, but all the while preserving Ford's image. Me too I've been saying this move was absurd from the start.

just as Jaguar WILL become profitable and already profitable Land Rover is growing more and more everyday Ford sell them- Ford deserves to go bust, stupid management.
