Why would you need such an exclusive stereo system anyway when all you are playing in the car is either radio or CD? U can only make it so good before it all sounds the same to the human ear.

uhhh helloooo..... ipods bud ipods :P radio and CD... pfffft :P ahaha higher quality sound is what their after, that's why they're doing this and trust me... the more you pay for a good audio company the crisper it gets... ive heard the differance before and it's ridiculous! i think it was between an average Sharp surround system vs. the new Bose surround sound system... there's differances :)

Well in everyday music like top 40 you will not notice a day and night difference as they are relatively a simple form of music(Frequency wise) BUT even in top 40 people's voice will sound more realistic. Where it really pays off is in opera and classical music where there are some really high and low frequencies that a normal sound system will not be able to play. They should have implemented something like this from the start since last time i checked they weren't exactly making budget cars.

BMW's response to Audi getting Bang & Olufsen, which is better i have no idea, i'll probably never get to hear this one.

I understand the Sharp surround compared to Bose surround, but the top of the range for me anyway is prob Bose and Bang & Olusfen, any better i think its just pure exclusiveness. B&O is already top notch in terms of sound and design.
