yet another concept?!
first they roll out the stupidest tagline in the industry "born from jets"
and then they have the longest, most painfull labour on the planet, even Boing and Airbus are delivering real Jets faster than what GM allows Saab to put to the market...
better kill the brand right now, so the sweet memory of a 900 turbo remains somewhat intakt!

GM doesn't allow them they tell them, i was actually at the SAAB dealer today looking at a new Aero, and i have never seen such horrible quality, the plastic everywhere, the knobs everything yelled out GM. The leather on the seats felt cheap, everything felt cheap. Right beside it they had a Saturn Astra and i must say that the 20,000$ astra had the same interior minus the luxury of cheap leather as the 9-3 Aero which was 48,000$. I was absolutely devastated to see the difference between my 99 9-5 Aero compared to this, it's like saab lost its swedish heritage and quality and is now a fully loaded Malibu. I was debating buying the Turbo X but now it's not even worth considering, the car feels so cheap and the price is so not. Now I'm considering finding a low mileage used Viggen, at least that car still has some soul reminiscent of SAAB.

born from jets? Jets are not front drive. SAAB cars are.
SAAB, no AWD=no care.

Saab has much more potential this.it's a pity gm can't see that.great design but everything feels cheap.they could have built fantastic cars if they weren't owned by gm

I don't think we get "Born from jets" in the UK - we couldn't bare it. It is a worry this car will be based on the Astra, which isn't known for its chassis, and I fully expect the SAAB DNA to have been watered down further. If GM give up on SAAB I hope they will at least give someone the chance to do a bettter job with it before they kill it.

I pray to god GM gives up on SAAB and that once that happens SAAB dumps all the GM parts found in their cars now and go back to the way they were in the late 80s and early 90s. Both swedish brands have been destroyed through american ownership. Volvo is in the same boat. I think both volvo and saab should separate from their american owners and form their own union, the two together would be an amazing match. Both have massive amounts of history with safety and turbos. But that is a dream that will never come true.

I agree with Radmeiseters comment, visited a Saab dealer in Berkshire, stafff were uninterested, quality of cars were poor and most surprising was that to maintain the anti-corrosion warranty an annual inspection was required, even Fiat and Alfa Romeo have enough confidence in their corrosion protection that they don't require this. Perhaps Saab want customers to invalidate their rust warranties. The service book showed that services are required every 9000 miles, even my run of the mill Honda has 12,500 service intervals. The emissions and fuel consumption were shockingly high. Unless Saab price the 9-1 several thousand pounds below there rivals and go more into Vauxhall pricing levels for the 9-1 they will struggle. Adding to their woes are the recent Which reports which put Saab close to the bottom for reliability

I have the saab 9-3 brochure and i dont know how you feel but i think the brochure is higher quality than the car. If you have the brochure look where it is printed and it will explain why. Printed in Germany!

Hahaha speaking of the devil, today my throttle body failed on the 9-5.....I have never heard of a throttle body failing, but apparently it is a commonly occurring problem on newer SAABs. Gotta love the GM parts bin. Prior to this 99 9-5 Aero i had a 1991 9000 Aero and it had 290,000km no problems, i now regret selling it because i have spent more money on replacing GM parts on this new 1 than the 9000 cost me to buy. Truly disappointed. :'(

Saab allways shows great concepts, but it`s production cars are not as great az it`s concepts.

Two observations now I have thought about this for longer:
- the Astra does not have an AWD version, but the X in this car's title suggests it is four wheel drive... a hybrid perhaps with electric motors at the back?
- this car seems to have quite a pronounced "canopy", so maybe we have a return to form in traditional looks for this car

The history of Saab is great and the potential is very high. GM will keep this brand, and I think they will turn it around, very soon. The long wait time is to no ones liking, but it is just part of the process. About Volvo, they have not been damaged by Ford, because the development and engineering is done by Volvo, not Ford. The result is that the Ford (500) Taurus uses the mechanicals of the S80 and ends up getting great marks for safety. GM should have done, oddly, what Ford did, buy Saab, and keep the development seperate from the other GM brands. The result would have been, platforms from Saab, lending GM cars better marks in safety and reliability. Sadly the went the other way. While the concepts have been promising, I trust they are on the verge of a much needed overhaul, and we will see production Saabs that are not left-over bits and pieces by the 2009 model year. For all the brow-beating written here, don't forget we all begged GM to keep Saab alive not to long ago, so let's wait just a bit longer and let our favorite quiry car company succeed, before we write them off for the hard times they are in now.
