With Scirocco Only Turbos are Allowed!

Volkswagen’s Scirocco will only come with force-fed measures. VW is working around the clock to prepare the car for its first public appearance at the upcoming Geneva International Motor Show. From there it will do the rounds including to shows like Paris in September and Auto Africa in Johannesburg this October. The two turbo engines to play hero in the lightweight sports car are the 1.4-litre TSI of 122 bhp/ 91kW and a TDI choice. Small turbo engines are currently the most sensible to use as they are light, yet powerful and somewhat economical compared to the bigger powerblocks.

Seven-speed DSG transmission is the logical cog to pick, because it allows for super quick changes in both automatic and semi-automatic. During heavy traffic instances it’s smooth, yet still responsive when situations change.

Expect some body-hugging sport seats, not dissimilar to the ones offered in the RS 4, RS 6 and S3, but more compact. A panoramic roof is an option for those akin to checking out the skies while they drive at 200km/h. ESP will be standard so there’s very little to fear at that level.

Just because it has 122HP does not mean it will be slow! The Lotus Elise has about 120HP and that is far from slow! A small amount of horses does not mean its gonna be slow!!

Volkswagen uses TSI and Audi uses the TFSI for marketing their engines.

Since this car is based on the Golf platform expect to see the basic 1.4 TSI 122PS as well as the twincharged 1.4 TSI's with 150PS (140 is upgraded to 150 with the introduction of Tiguan) and 170 PS (expect an upgrade here too).

2.0 TSI will be most probably offered with a higher tune as well. Expect to see the 220/230 PS edition in the Scirocco...

As for the TDI's: VW is preparing a 1.6 TDI with commonrail and it may be shown in Geneva as a surprise. Power level is app. 105 PS with 250Nm + torque. Lets wait and see...

VW uses TSI and TFSI marks for engines. TFSI mark is fo 2l turbocharged engine that is in golf GTI. TSI mark is used for an engine that has 1.4l and uses supercharger at low rev and turbo at high rev. VW is developing 1.6l engine with TSI tehnology

Not anymore! According to the latest price lists and documents (for example Tiguan docs) TFSI is changed to TSI so that (may be) marketing departments are happy! :)

Anyway, all of them are great engines! TSI or TFSI...

LOL Bornwild LOL... Expect a 2.0TSI with around 300bhp. No, lets not expect that you idiot. Expect a 2.0T with 200PS, the new TT-S will have the highest output 2.0T engine and that will produce ~273PS, that would not be allowed to go into this VW.

I don't understand why VW thinks the Scirocco will canabalize GTI sales ... they have sold both the Scirocco and Corrado alongside the GTI in past generations ... in both cases, the GTI has been sales leader due to its lower price point, while the Scirocco and Corrado were positioned as halo cars ... lets hope they reconsider, and also adjust their sales expectations accordingly.
