I was under the belief that the V10 in the Audis had barely any commonality with the Lamborghini unit. Am I wrong? Sources?

they dont but they started of as the same and the lambos will have been reworked considerably. its liek the RS4 engine and the S4 - although same brand in the case, its the same original unit but the RS4 has been considerably reworked with different internals and is much better than the S4 in term of everything (except fuel economy!-although my mates S5 keeps returning really bad mpgs too).

the RS6 has the 5.2 but with the twin turbo, this will be just be completely reworked. and since its got a very nice hp to engine cc ratio and no forced induction, its going to have a nice rpm red line! the engine will sound like a gem. i recon it will be similar to M5but more burbely... or atleast i hope it will be!

the s5 is a detuned version of the rs4 engine not exactly the same as the s4 engine. i think the upcoming v10 are gonna be alot closer to lambo spec but the ones in the s6 and s8 arent close to the one in the gallardo.

@super_car_muscle_man
The new RS6 has V10 with 5,0L and not 5,2L! The 5,2L is used in Audi S8!

I think you should make the Lambo lighter, the engine is very good but they weight like the moon...they are almost a SUV whit huge engine...learn from the best, the F40 is 1000Kg and you dont need AWD whit a decent engeniering...

You can't compare this to a F40. The F40 was a GT car for the road, it has nothing inside and only 1 layer of paint. These days you need fancy leather seats, fancy dashboard and a fancy SAT Nav. All the modern luxuries add weight.

Is the LP550 going to be an improvement on the Superleggera, or merely another limited-run evolution of the standard Gallardo? I think people would be less likely to accuse Audi of "taming the beast" that is Lamborghini if they went berserk with this one -- I'm imagining a 5.2L FSI V10 bi-turbo. Yep, that'd get people eagerly anticipating a possible future baby Lambo. No doubt about that. I hope Audi is listening.

M7.... The superleggera is that "lighter version" lambo you looking for. I forgot how much weight they were able to shave off the car, but it was pretty significant.
