New VW minivan

Some call it the Chrysler Town & Country, and some call it the Dodge Grand Caravan. Starting today soccermoms (or baseballmoms if you please) all over the North American continent can also call it the Volkswagen Routan.

It is maybe not the most inventive way to launch a new product, but it definitely is cheaper than going through a costly, and long development process to make your own. So why re-invent the wheel if you can simply rebadge an exisiting, and one that sells well for that matter, minivan.

one would think that VW would learn from Daimler's mistake. but, NO! Let's rebadge a Chryler Town&Country and sell this awkward box on wheels to our more practical cousins in Europe.

Way too big and way too ... well, let's say "GM".

Plus, you wouldn't get quite so many buyers over here that'd opt for the 4.0L, simply because every bigger van (U.S. = "minivan", ironically) supposedly has a turbocharged diesel engine.
