I don't get the market for this car. Is it the same as for the MB R-class (i.e. none)?

It's pretty much a wagon but the back looks more stylish than a traditional station wagon.

I think that BMW's idea of crossovers, four door coupes, PAS', etc. has gotten too thickly embedded in their heads. Seriously, enough with trying to be unique. They call the X5 and the X3 a "SAV" (Sports Activity Vehicle) just to sound original. Everyone knows its a crossover. The well designed CS concept is supposed to be a "four door coupe". The X6 is some "four door coupe SUV" and now this! I think we've seen enough already. BMW should stop trying to be so unique just for the sake of it because seriously its getting annoying. It was fine to a certain extent but now BMW should focus on improving their 'conventional' sedans, coupes and SUVs so that all of them don't have nearly identical grilles, headlights, body lines etc..

They should learn from the R-class' failure, you just can't feed anything to consumers, not even to eccentric americans. Just keep a balance between logic and passion. This is just redundant, money & time waste.

I agree- pointless. A CLS rival 5 series coupe would have been a better use of resources- the R-class is rubbish and so is this.

I agree. I believe that BMW are putting a great deal of engineering work into the next-gen 5-series. It already seems that they will ust the components for the 5er sedan, touring, and this model. I agree that a 5er coupe (a la CLS and Passat CC) would also be welcomed in the market where peple simply want a good looking, very good quality, great handling executive-class sedan.

The 8-series is supposed to be that kind of luxury, sleek, 4-door coupé. And all the money spent on that stupid crossover should have gone into it.

I figured out what this POS ..uh, PAS reminds me of... a 1979-80 Buick Century / Olds Cutlass "fastback." HIDEOUS. But they sold a bunch of 'em.
