toyota has no competitor for the Honda Civic Si or VW GTI. corolla XRS ??? maybe a competitor for the Sentra SE-R, etc.. but not the class leaders, toyota is good at making products to target only basic or high-volume segments. Toyota do you have a soul anymore?? Please don't tell me it is lexus division...

Toyota's cars have no soul any more. The automaker sold its soul to the devil as a business move so that it could become the world's largest automotive producer. That's why its cars are mere rolling appliances instead being objects that people WANT and DESIRE to drive.

MR2 and Celica replacements would help, and a 100bhp+ Aygo T-Sport would be awesome!

Well this one is much better than the old one in terms of styling. Just remove the rear wing and you get a beauty. I think Toyota are still very attractive. They have never been popular for making good looking cars. Most of the production has mostly been ugly. What you think about Toyota is pure quality. Their cars are balanced and very reliable. This is where Honda still have a lot to learn. They do great engines, but often the overall package is average. And Toyota never lost their soul- this's rubbish!

mickey_f1: Toyota still makes very good off-roaders/trucks, but as far as cars go, you tell me where their soul(character) is. The Lexus IS? please! With some exception to the IS-F, the IS lost its soul in its current generation (complete abandonment of last altezza's character, no turbo, bland in comparison to previous generation) and the GS is a joke in comparison with 5-series, E-class, and A6.. also the mr2 is gone, as well as the supra and even celica. Please don't tell me that the hybrid sports car concept is a replacement for the supra, what a joke... What I am saying is not at all that Toyota isn't making quality cars, but that with each passing generation their cars are surely losing character and desirability to real car enthusiasts.

The GS a joke? lol At least regarding the 450 hybrid, it's being a nightmare for the german big three in terms of ego. I have driven that car a couple of times, and its acceleration isnt far from that of a Porsche Boxster S, with the fuel consumption and pollution level of a VW Golf. Handling lies between 5-series and MB E-class. Plus better service, reliability, and fully loaded.

About the new Corolla, true, it lacks the passion found on some competitors, but at the same time looks fine (euro version devoid of that crappy body kit), drives quietly, and is ultra reliable, which is what customers demand in this segment. Their (somewhat) demagogic commitment to ecology and green transportation is related to this decline on more radical approaches (exit MR2, Celica, Supra...), but may come back as soon as they manage to integrate hybrid solutions in light sporty cars. Don't forget they need to exploit their involvement in F1 somehow...

Is it just me or does this car get bigger and bigger, eventually it will be the same size as a camry and will no longer serve its point as a cheap economic car.

Until the Japanese stop whaling you should all stop buying their cars. Only economic pressure will stop them killing whales.

Here in Oz, Toyota Australia has grown to be the most respected and highly purchased vehicle manufactuer of all. Their cars, SUV's and 4X4's have evolved emmensly with powerful yet relatively frugal engines. The Aurion has been a great addition as with the shoe-horning of the wonderful 2GR-FE 3.5 V6 into the RAV4, Tarago and Kluger. TRD Australia has introduced the delightful TRD Aurion and soon the TRD Hilux while Lexus has become a fantastic outfit with great examples hitting the market. We now have the new 4.6 V8 GS460 included as with the new LS460 and LS600hl and anticipate the arrival of the IS-F while the standard IS250 is the most popular Lexus of all receiving great reviews from local media groups. And just for good measure - in the past 12 months alone ... 4 independant Quality and Customer Satisfaction Surveys of Australian motorists have been released with Toyota scoring in the top three in every survey while Holden (GM) and Ford have consistantly been the absolute worse performers occuping the very bottom every time - even betten by Kia.

Lutzie ... until GM, Ford and Crysler stop biulding poor quality and often troublesome motor vehicles - the world should stop buying cars from American owned companies but then again, that is already slowing starting to happen. Sales of Holden and Ford are lower now then they ever have been in many, many years. Here is Oz, Mazda, Honda and Toyota are by a comfortable margin the best quality cars with the highest customer satisfaction ratings. refer to Leaked Australian Quality Survey, RAC National Australian Survey, JD Powers analysis of Western Australian Motorists and the very late inaugural JD Powers Australian National analysis for confirmation.
