Because this is on the Golf platform, with a width mounted engine. The V8 is designed for length mounting.

Besides a heavy V8 would totally ruin the crisp agile handling characteristic of the DI 4 cyl turbo, and eventhough it shares some elements with the Golf, its paltform has been heavily modified with aluminium key components. In my opinion the TT-S is more than enough for everyday driving (and fun), especially under the increasing police state repression affecting most western countries nowadays. In other words, you'll hardly be able to exploit the extra power found on the RS version unless you drive daily on german autobahns, and will be wasting extra money on insurance, taxes, gas, etc.

those extra lights in the front are not fog lights! they're driving lights! the give more light when high/low beam (depends on electrical wiring) are switched on. on public roads in europe low beam with driving lights are illegal....! and this is in/near arjeplog, sweden... scandinavia is norway, sweden an finnland...;-)

The TT no longer shares the platform with the Golf! It was the mk 1 that shared the platform and that has since been discarded with the mk 2. The RS would not have a 4.2 RS4 engine as weight would be a massive factor! The 2.0 and the 3.2 engines lead to very different characteristics in the TT.
