Leaked: BMW M3 Cabrio
Here we are busy reporting on all the latest and greatest at the Detroit Motor Show, then up pops our friends at autoblog.nl with what appears to be the first official photos of the BMW M3 Cabrio which had us frantically running over to the BMW stand expecting to see this baby in the flesh, only to be left disappointed.
The new M3 Cabrio is reported to be the first to feature BMW's 7 speed double clutch transmission which will carry the label "M DKG" and is very similar to Volkswagen's six speed DSG transmission which uses 2 computer controlled switches to make shift changes both quicker and smoother. The 0 to 60mph time lies at 5.3 seconds which is 0.4 seconds slower than the coupe, largely due to the extra weight of the retractible roof.
We aren't expecting to see the M3 Cabrio in the flesh until Geneva in March, but lets see if these leaked photos spur BMW into action sooner

The 420hp won't get it to 60mph faster?
What a shame ... 5.3 ain't really sporty if you ask me. The elderly Audi RS4 Cabriolet does that quicker at 4.9s.
Or is it the DKG's bad? Can't imagine what slows this car down so bad...
And 5.3 for an M? That is firmly where Audi place there S models... forget the RS models.
Cabriolets should still have soft tops. Textile. Like the E46 M3 series convertible.
Call it the "M3 Coupé Convertible". Bwah.

Fancy a TT-S which does it in 5.2 seconds from its little 2.0 litre engine! And lightweight to waste the M3 on the corners, with quattro and magnetic ride.

Alright, noone's gonna go for that weight, but just imagine the car fueled at 1,885kg with 2 proper passengers at (man/woman combo) 72kg each. 2,029kg.
There you go.
The proper two-ton sports ride.
Just to have that here, too. *click*
