New flagship model
Even though Hyundai has released its new flagship model in Korea already in December, the 2008 North American International Auto Show debut for the Hyundai Genesis was deemed one of the show highlights.
The all-new Hyundai Genesis is breaking the mold in the large sedan market, it is priced under USD 30,000 while its direct competition charges almost double that with equal or better performance. Whether the Koreans have managed to make the Genesis a 'driver's' car remains to be seen, but the Genesis Coupe Concept definitely means business.
“While Genesis will compete for customers with cars like Chrysler 300 and Pontiac G8, our engineering benchmarks were Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Infiniti M, and Lexus GS,” said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America.
There are two V6 engines available and the new 4.6 liter Tau V8, producing 375 hp, on the rear-wheel-drive car. Styling will either be loved or hated, with the grille very distinctive and the rear lights rather clumsy looking, but beauty lies in the eye of the beholder so we will let you decide. Will Hyundai be able to break into the large, near luxury sedan market with the Genesis?
