Muscle car wars

A few days ago our carparazzi spotted a heavily camouflaged Ford Mustang on the Detroitt roads, and a day later Bob Lutz announced to 'pull the covers' off the upcoming Camaro, which now does its testing free of camouflage. The heavily camouflaged 'Stang was not just any new Mustang, but a Mustang GT Coupe (notice the dual exhaust) with what look remarkably like GT500 wheels.

Sources say that we can expect a mid-cycle facelift in 2010 for the pony car, and judging from the amount of covering it seems that it will be a rather big update with new front and rear fascia, including grille, headlamps and taillights.

If we are to believe the rumors, the 2010 Mustang will go into production early 2009 ith sales starting in either the late in the first or second quarter of 2009.

Two things i notice..the got rid of the large side mirrors and new headlights have better detail....still a live rear axle, what a shame

Yeah those mirrors were horribly massive for the car, and the unpainted black plastic, they belong on an F-150 not a mustang.

this can't be a "GT", it has turbo gauges in the dash.

nismoskyline - Where do you see turbo gauges, I see twin pods on the pillar but those could be water and oil related. either way still too early to say if it'll be any better than the current model.

Could be turbo u never know, they just released their plans for a 3.5v6 with 340hp. If its the same quality V6 as in the Noble this engine should be good for 500hp.

ahh one thing the car has a great design no doubt but its build with ford quality .......that means all those cheap plastic and fiberglass sort of make the car look dull and cheap and ruins the looks ...so face lift could only help if the material gets better for example led lights ...more leather and please get rid of the dashboard i think it looks ugly ..i know its retro but just wait till you see the new cameros its got idk class

why don't they make it smaller have better handling and give it a good engine, so it can compete with the 1 series?

because the mustang does not compete with a 1-series its called a muscle car for a reason; this car is designed to face the likes of the corvette and viper (charger/challenger in the old days)(although its supposed competitors are much faster and sportier looking) ford is really the only one who managed to preserve or bring back to life the muscle car with the mustang gt, and even more so with the historic shelby revivals, and saleen as another shelby counterpart this car was made for a v8, and that is what it will get and if the idea of competing with smaller sports cars like the 1 series came into play, they would come out with an all new smaller coupe

I own a 2005 v6 mustang. The car has nice styling, but the inside is almost all plastic, even with the leather option. isn't 5 years somewhat early for a new one?

"isn't 5 years somewhat early for a new one?" The 2010 Mustang isn't all-new, its just a mid-cycle facelift/upgrade.

ag4 u'd be surprised look at audi and the a4, not 3 years its been out, huge success, and audi already has a new a4 being tested and reviewed by magazines like motor trend, and is tbr in the fall as a 2009 only 3 years passed since the first current a4 rolled off the assembly line anything is possible; don't dismiss the possibility of a complete redesign so quickly
