Alfa Romeo 'Junior' Official Teaser Shots

Junior's on his way. Stylised largely in a red tint, a colour as fitting of Alfa as it is Ferrari, these are the first official teaser shots of the new Alfa Romeo 'Junior' to head our way prior to the car's Geneva Motor Show debut in March.

Focusing attention primarily on that of Alfa's signature grille, door mirrors & handles, and Alfa badge, there are few clues as to the new pug-sized Italian's design cues. But it is a fog light that leaves the greatest trail, indicating much like in earlier spy photos, that a retro look is on its way. Our source, an Alfa Junior-dedicated blog named Progetto955.it, describes a grille 'less developed' than that of the 147 and 159.

Priced at around 20,000 euros, the Junior will be a premium offering in a segment dominated by BMW's MINI and soon to be joined by the Audi A1. A range of lower-displacement and turbocharged engines will power the Junior, the line-up kicking off with a normally-aspirated 104 hp 1.4-litre, rising to 148 hp with an optional turbocharger. A 1.6-litre JTD diesel and 1.8-litre turbo will be offered with anywhere up to 148 and 227 horses respectively.

Production will start in the Spring, with Italian sales starting in June, while further European markets are unlikely to get the Junior until Autumn. Head over to our recent article on the Junior for two computer-generated renderings and check out the first spy shots of the car caught under wraps, revealing little at the front but a child-bearing bumper and oval exhaust tips at the rear.

Seems like the exhaust pipe is quite different to the last "Spy shot" article.

Each has its own style. You can't say one is better than the other. The only brands without any sense of style and personality are those coming from Ford and GM. German and japanese brands each have their own personality that draws in different people and emotions. Personally i see a relation between styling in automobiles from a certain region and the women found there. German cars are solid and demand your attention with their sharp edges and clean cuts. Same as german women. Japanese cars are smaller, more nimble and cute. Like asian women. Italian cars are more sensual and curvaceous. And italian women are the same. American cars now envoke about as much emotion as manure. It has a purpose and does it well, but you dont love it. I won't even begin describing american women, i will just leave it at they are good on the plow so u can spread the manure.

Radmeister, I agree with you in some things, but I see it from another perspective. From my point of view all the new car designs are afraid to draw a new line. For example the Germans are designing the cars like bricks, yes the have sharp edges but there everything is just in order like in your office.(Compare Porsche and Ferrari).Porsche is afraid to make some stupidity like in the 80?s with the design and is just redrawing the same lines over and over again(911 bible, but just cut the kreap and make something new, if I want a old 911 I will get it!) Ferrari for example every new model has new lines and is more and more attractive then the previous model.(When the 360modena was made, we?ve sad,-This is the best! But Ferrari again bingo with the F430).That?s what I?m talking about! Japanese don?t have modern design because of their philosophy of making the cars. KAIZEN method is good for the durability of the engine and other parts, but for the design is BAD. They just make the model, closed it like a project, and they make the tests for 3 years. After that the design is just old? Americans?.ahhhhhhhhhh! They are desperate. They make the switches for the air-conditioner with the size of a wheel 14??jhehehheheh. Megalomans , they only make the cars big big big. Everything is big! The engines, the wheels?the girils! But just see them now. Turbocharged family cars, economy of fuel, diesel cars, little cars?hehehe. For 15years I think they will not make Pick-up?s any more!:) I now also that the Italians are not making the most quality cars in the world. But I don?t care! Now days design is the only thing that?s for sale. Take the example just from the other parts of your life. The cell phones! Designs and designs! But poor quality. Washing machines, PC, VW(just compare Golf2?s and Golf5?s quality) ?.etc etc. In the car industry the design is selling also or the trend, the market is wanting that. In the well develop countries the trend of changing car is just getting lower and lower 4years,3years?change old for new. They say now days 2,5years. TOYOTA ,7years warranty! Guaranty for Quality?! I don?t care! I want the new ALFA! :)
