Artist Rendering of VW Golf VI GTI

Based on spy photos snapped during hot weather testing in the American desert this past summer, computer artists have digitally lifted the camouflage from the next generation Golf VI. While they were at it, also decided to make it more interesting as a GTi model. Works for us.
Rumoured to arrive in European dealers by September of this year and the GTI a year later, VW management has expedited this next generation due to poor acceptance in Europe of the current Golf V. Blaming high production expenses as a result of a lengthy per unit manufacturing time, VW brass set out to cut their losses and push development of a new MK VI Golf which is based on the current MK V platform – just nipped and tucked in all of the right places for a faster turnaround time.
For the exterior design, which was overseen by Volkswagen's head designer, Walter de Silva, top execs sought an exterior design that was conservatively evolving off of the MK V yet somewhat sexier with a more aggressive stance as the vehicle gets a more purposeful looking front end plus a hovering slammed effect as the wheels fill the wheel arches nicely.
It is speculated that VW will diversify their successful TSI engine lineup with further variants up to 2.0 liters. Additonally, BlueMotion and hybrid versions are scheduled for release from 2009 forward. The GTi will get even more power than the current model with an engine delivering 230 hp, and an even hotter 4Motion performance edition along the lines of the current R32 producing 265 hp following later.

The front looks rather harmless in this rendering and the typical GTI-ish look just isn't there. The wannabe grill doesn't work.
The power output of 230 hp is available in the 30 Years Anniversary Edition of the GTI, if I'm not ill-informed. Same engine there with no mods? Would suck for the fuel consumption numbers.
The whole area round the rear wheels looks crappy somehow. *shrugs*
And: you wouldn't want such a "tame" rear bumper on a GTI Golf, would you?
