Audi have announced in a somewhat short press release that they are to stage the world premieres of both a new concept vehicle and 'world first' (presumably) production car at January's North American International Automobile Show in Detroit.

Speculation has of course been rife following the announcement with the concept debut expected by most to be that of an R8 Targa variant. While the facelifted A3 may very well be on the cards for a production model world premiere - much like a V10-powered R8 and Q7 Hybrid - our money's split between the Q5 and Audi's 2.0-litre TT-S, which according to insider information, is destined for the US market and consequently will premiere at the Detroit Show.

There's little to do now but sit back and wait until Audi unveil their two world firsts on January 13th at 2.20pm. We'll have Detroit covered, so check back soon for the lowdown.

There goes the performance. I'm a fan of roadsters, but they are not for serious drivers.

I'm a massive fan of the R8 Coupe, but this looks like the love-child of the Chrysler Crossfire and a Smart Roadster!

the r8 targa looks like a true roadster but correct me if i'm wrong: the r8's chassis was designed on the Gallardo right? what puzzles me is why they don't offer the v10 that is standard in the Gallardo as an option for those who crave the power I know that the r8 is supposed to be the alternative to the Gallardo for those unwilling to pay north of $180g but they should still make it available the reason why I say this is because if I were to choose solely based on looks, I would choose the Gallardo anyway, r8 targa looks great and can't wait
