Inside Line Tests Nissan GTR

Too much emphasis is placed on 0 - 60 mph statistics as it represents only one element of a larger overall picture of what a vehicle is capable of achieving dynamically. With all of the hype surrounding Nissan's new GT-R hyper sports car, the vehicle is an instant legend and Edmund's Inside Line helps solidify that reputation with an exclusive full test drive. Despite attempts at objectivity, the petrol-head junkie within can't help but reinsert eyeballs back into sockets as Inside Line reports 0 - 60 mph in a pavement cracking 3.3 seconds and quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 120.9 mph.

Using a privately owned Japanese spec GT-R at an airstrip outside of Tokyo, the 3.8-liter turbo V6 engine produces an unofficial minimum of 473 hp and 434 ft/lbs of torque. Inside Line reports that they achieved these numbers by engaging the GT-R's launch control feature that enabled a spine crushing launch through the GT-R's all-wheel-drive system despite low-grip surface. Without the launch control, the GT-R still produced an amazing 0 – 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds at 120.6 mph.

Inside Line asserts this is the quickest car they've ever tested. Compared to the Dodge Viper, Corvette Z06 and Porsche 911 Turbo Tiptronic, the GT-R gets bragging rights. With a price tag of 70,000 USD the GT-R rewrites the rules for all hyper cars. Check out the Inside Line source link below for full story.

further proof that a V12 is not necessary anymore for supercar performance...

lets see, this car kicks ass and i bet someone is still gonna try and trash it. if i had the cash on me i would buy this in a flat second. even though it says 70,000usd you know that with the stupid dealer mark ups that you won't be able to get one for less than at least 90k. but even then i think its worth it, and like i said in a much much earlier article/comment, this car looks killer in red.

Nothing better for 70 grand. What a deal! Nissan could have gotten away with charging alot more for this car but didn't. Hats off to them.

I really do not understand what the hype is--it looks like a two door mitsubishi lancer with 350Z headlights.

Get over it.

Simply not appealing. I promise.

Are you kidding me? Hype? I guess you are the type that is hard to please. Let me see, a car that costs around 70k does 0-60 in around 3 seconds. Quarter mile probably in the 11's, can handle on the track like a bat out of hell, sophisticated AWD drive, carry 4 people, can be used daily to drive around town! I guess that's hype alright! Name me a car besides the Z06 in that price range that can do all that? And by the way the Z06 is only a 2 seater. Besides the Porsche, which, costs double the price I can't think of a car that can do all that. If you are talking about looks that is subjective, any other dumb questions or comments?

You have to understand what GT - R means for japanese sport car world...perhaps interior comfort is no match compared with porsche, but performance is not a question

well, its a gtr, to be expected. if your blown away by the numbers, that means you have no idea of what nissan can do with 2 turbos, 4 wheel drive and 6 cylinders. the power lineage of the gtr is legendary. hell, the current bang for the buck champ z06 just recieved a lunge kick directly to the small of its back. why is it that whenever the gtr is presented to the public, it instantly becomes a world wide cult classic? DAMN!!!

Wow. Nissan took the things I love about the 911 turbo (awd, 6cyl, twin turbo), improved them, and made it significantly cheaper. My new dream car? I wanna see it in black

Looks like they fliped Audi grill upside down. Japs are good in copying things and makeing them better. Performance wise is fine going straight, how about handling or comfort? I guess more tests will shall.

I agree that Japanese always copy things from others and develops them.. BUT NOT IN THIS ONE!!.. This car is "PURELY" Japanese, everything is unique, and spectacular.. This car is not just a mechanical acheivment, its a peace of art too.. Its one of the most beautiful car ever made..However, I dont like the revised styled head lamp, the previous one with the black shadow was looking 1000 time more aggressive.. I WISH I COULD BUY ONE.. I WOULD CHOSE IT OVER ANY EUROPEAN CAR!.!.!.

if this is true, then anyone that modifys the engine of this car needs to be shot. 0-60 in 3.3 from 70k. thats literally bang for bucks. crazy car for the price. no doubt ofcourse its better to have a porsche turbo but if you have this you wont be dissapointed :D damn quick!

December 20, 2007 2:17 PM
who said japanese always copied and made it better, i bet trhose people never had a chance to go to Japan, those jap cars you see in north american market are only for emerican, cuz emerican want the car look like this, but in japan everything is totally different,i bet 80-90% of cars in japan, american never see it, they are made for japan market only, thats why you see the honda odyssey for japan is not odyssey you see in US,and so on,the design is so Japanese..

thanks andy, everyone in NA just seems to think that a car in NA is the same as a car in the rest of the world, even though it's not like that.

It's all good though, we all see what we can only see.

For someone that said something about the GTR about if it can handling. Are you kidding? These cars are made to handle, it's in their DNA. It just happens to be fast as hell in a straight line as well.

Wait till next year's tokyo show after HKS has had a year to play with this thing. If they can get 600hp out of a 2L Lancer evo, Lets not forget about Nismo which their version of this is going to be crazy. I predict we will see the first over 1000hp Skyline within the 1st year.

phobos
December 25, 2007 9:11 AM
not 1000hp, the yellow lime Skyline could do 1000 hp, the new GT - R will do 1200 hp, with much greater handling.. AND MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

Just remember the gtr is not design to look like a show pony its a gtr function over form hence the low 0.27cd, and you can fit two people in the back seats with a reasonable size boot, can drive on snow, and even your granny can drive it as a normal every day car, how many super cars can do that!!
