Nissan GT-R V-Spec

Photos have begun to surface of a mysterious Nissan GT-R traversing the track with several features not to be found on the standard model. Inheriting the tradition of its predecessors, the new GT-R appears set to re-vitalise a lightweight, stripped-out, higher-powered version of the car dubbed Group N or re-introduce the V-Spec version which also enhanced performance.

The images, which first surfaced on GTR-World, show a significantly modified prototype. Prime differences over the production model include a new bonnet air intakes, lowered ride height and a modified front bumper design with no central grille strut, presumably in aid of improved engine cooling during testing. Race-spec alloy wheels and tyres as well as a full roll cage highlight an upped spec.

The V-Spec is essentially a road-legal version of a track car, similar to how the race track-bred Porsche 911 GT3 is positioned relative to the 911 Turbo. The GT-R V-Spec is expected to hit streets in 2009.

it ain't ugly at all, its better looking than a Porsche 911 Turbo, plus I've read some magazines about that, they say its far more hardcore than a Porsche and other German cars in that line.

The standard version is as quick if not quicker than a 911 turbo. What on earth would this do?

Even lower-priced Porsches are quicker than the 911 turbo, that's not a great deal.

This is an animal just to enjoy in tracks as horses in modern age. Horse riding is no longer a major measure of trasportation but is a sport, enjoyment or even a measure of healing.

wat lower priced porsche other than the gt-3 is faster than the turbo? and besides, although its faster on a track, in terms of quarter mile and acceleration figures, the gt3 is slower than the turbo.

don't forget, what if you go off the beaten track... i'd rather crash in porsche than in a nissan.... the germans put a lot of work into passenger protection... after all, you only live once... being stingy in the wrong place might end your life very early...

I see what you saying...but if you went off the track at over 80mph or so, I don't think anything would make a difference.

while i see your point, im sure nissan puts just as much money into safety as porsche. and its not about being stingy its about what you can afford. I mean its like going to see the doctor in certain countries without free health care. its not that i dont WANT to see the expensive doctor, its that i cant afford. even though you only live once.

Are you kidding with the engine sitting behind you? in a crash, nissan would be stronger

umm... the 911 turbo does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds. Why doesnt somebody go to porsche.com and study the lineup?

not everyone can actually achieve that time of 3.7 seconds lol seriously man... do u REALLY think you can achieve that time (unless ur an experianced race car driver?) this nissan is made for the average driver AND it can be pushed to the limit by and experianced driver... both resulting in fast lap times or even just a cruise on the highway seriously man YOU go get your facts right becfore reading off a brochure lol

I think the design is typical GT-R. It's not always the most beautiful design but it looks mean and fast.

WORLDCARFANS, you guys got it wrong. The Porsche GT3 is not the derived from the 911 Turbo but from the normal Carrera. The race-track bred 911 GT2 is positioned relative (above) to the 911 Turbo.

smokeonit1, porsche is fast but not really strong as Volvo or saab,if you crash over 100 mph, i think GTR would be better at protection, porsche has rear engine,so the hood is a trunk,..however,it all depends on how you crash the car,you cant tell until you experience it.

Talking about safety, all the exotic cars are in same condition as they are being exported to all across the world clearing toughest safety regulations, at least. GT3 and GT-R V-spec surely have even better safety proficiency than normal 911 or normal GT-R as racing cars have, but level of safety must be equal, I suppose. GT-R styling is not my taste but it must be Japanese way of expression of uniqueness, from my point of view.

Theres a site called "edmunds".. They tested one japanese guy's GTR.. The result is stunning.. With the launch control system activated (was a secret by nissan) that car "crushed" the 911 Turbo, 0-60 in 3.3 secs ONLY.. Dont underestimate japanese.. I think they will lead the world in couple of years..

Here is to hoping that Nissan will actually offer this version with a manual transmission. If they do, I might actually get this over the Viper.

997t vs gtr is a very difficult topic. according to motortrend they did 0-60 in 3.2 secs in a 997t tiptronic s. It depends on the driver which numbers you get. I doubt any of us could achieve said numbers. So in the end its about lap times, class, views, fun and how much money you got in your pocket. Do you like to drift? Then the GTR is nothing for you, even the drift King wasnt able to get it sideways. Are you a wannabe Schuhmacher? Then get the GTR, its way easier to handle and will get you incredible results (on a track, i heard that in Japan they limited the GTR on 180kph if you arent on a track. If you mess with the ECU Nissan will imediatly know and your warranty will be lost). Its a personal preference.

So on topic. Let's see what the GT-R V-spec does about the 997 GT2's 7:32 on the nordschleife...

According to the brochure, the GT-R is more luxurious and the GT-R V-Spec more racy. But the version that you see on the pictures looks even faster than the GT-R V-Spec! Maybe it is a GT-R V-Sec Nur???
