Boring Golf. VW must stop this obsession with V6 engines. The new world calls for small, compact and turbocharged motors. Just ask your cousins at Audi. Put in a 2.2-litre turbo motor in there and make over 230kW please!

the golf V has a super good 1.4 twin turbo engine good for 170HP (125KW)....
very good gas mileage... but that engine is not offered in north america...

and 230KW for a 2.2l 4 banger is unrealistic... unless you want to get a new engine every 100k miles, or earlier...

and design wise VW need to be more agressive, BMW is a good example of good design...
the tiguan was a good design as a concept, but boring inside and out in the released version... the eos too...
the only VW model that has passion is the new beetle, but the marketing is so lame compared to mini... i really think VW should have made the new beetle it's own brand in order to separate it from the boring rest of the models...
just check out the VW germany website and compare it to the VW USA website... then you know why young people don't like VW in germany... they prefer the mini, which is very expensive compared to what it offers....

THE GOLF VI LOOKS GOOD FROM THE RENDERINGS, AND YES THEY ARE JUST RENDERINGS, ALTHOUGH MY OPINION IS THAT THEY ARE INACCURATE, FROM THE ACTUAL SPY PHOTOS I BELEIVE IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THE CAR MAY HAVE DARKENED HEADLIGHT LENSES/COVERS, AND A 2.2L TURBO IS VERY UNREALISTIC FOR A MASS PRODUCTION ECONOMY MODEL, FIGURE A NATURAL ASPIRATION FOUR OR FIVE CYLINDER, AND WE ALREADY KNOW VW HAS JUST FINISHED DEVELOPING THE TDI/BLUEMOTION MODEL'S NEW 2.0 TDI TURBO DIESEL FOUR CYLINDER WITH 140 AND 170 HP/PS VERSIONS AS IT IS ALREADY IN PRODUCTION

310 hp is ridiculous. 260 hp seems more reasonable for a 2.0 liter gasoline; the 130i has 265 hp but it's rear-wheel drive... and it's a 3.0 liter six-cylinder.

I'm not sure hey. Mitsu seems to have a reliable 295hp under the 'hood of a 2.0-litre Evo X. Four years ago Volvo delivered 295hp from a 2.5, while the new Impreza STI is said to put out 308hp from its 2.0 litre. It appears possible to me.

THAMZN: A TURBOCHARGED BASE GOLF? NO, UNLESS YOU SUGGEST THE 1.4 TFSI TWINCHARGER MOTOR WITH 127KW/170 HP.
IF YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT A GTI BEING TURBOCHARGED, WELL OF COURSE, THEY AREADY ARE. PUT THE 2.0TFSI ONLY MAKES 150KW/200HP. VW/AUDI ALREADY HAS A 195KW/265 HP VERSION, WHICH IS UNLIKELY TO BUT COULD POSSIBLY POWER THE MK-VI GTI.
NOW THE R32, WELL IT IS VERY POSSIBLE FOR VW TO PUT THE 265 HP 2.0TFSI IN THE NEXT R32!! THIS WOULD GIVE AMPLE POWER AND IMPROVE WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION, UNFORTUNATELY VW MAY NOT WANT TO JUST BECAUSE THE TRADITION SEEMS TO BE A VR6 MOTOR IN AN R32 BUT ALL IS POSSIBLE, MAYBE EVEN A VR6 3.2 TFSI !! THIS COULD MAKE ANYWHERE FROM 220KW/295 HP TO 235KW/315HP OR MORE.
THIS EQUATION COULD THEORETICALLY EXCEED YOUR MAGIC NUMBER!!! UNFORTUNATELY I AM JUST DREAMING LIKE YOU BUT LET'S KEEP WISHING THAMZN !

nickkop, thanks for understanding. All I am saying is that at some point VW will have to look at smaller, but more powerful alternatives to their 3.2 V6 mills, which are not the most efficient out of Germany.

if this is the 6 generation of golf ... come a decline ... from design coses !! sorry but look bad !!

I have no doubt in VW's ability to pull more power from their engines. I think the question is whether they should get sucked along in the tide of more and more hp at the expense of fuel economy. Is 200 hp in the GTI inadequate?
The styling seems too bland, particularly in the front. I can understand and appreciate the desire to move away from Audi's Edsel/shield look, but this is too cautious. Hopefully, they'll do something interesting with the headlights.
