Since its concept debut at the New York Auto Show this past April, numerous spy photos of the new rear-wheel-drive 3.8-liter V8 sedan known internally as BH, have been taken during its development. But these latest detailed shots found on South Korean hi-fi stereo forum site, Wassada.com, show it completely in the buff. Aside from some interesting design details on the exterior, one particular detail which was speculated but unconfirmed, until now, is the BMW 5 Series iDrive like controller in the center console just below the gear lever.

Hyundai has already announced a release party for the upmarket Genesis on December 29th, coinciding with their 40th Anniversary, and then making its public debut just two weeks later at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. With pricing expected to come in well below $30,000 USD, the Genesis is sure to turn a lot of heads.

WTF the front looks like a bad merc-lexus copy, the backlights are from the bmw 3-series, only stretched!

The Genesis has the 17 speaker 528 watt Lexicon audio system factory installed. There is only 1 other car maker that uses this ultra high end system, that brand would be Rolls Royce, the golden standard for quality asskicking. More than can be said about the 2 German car makers. Keep that in mind when you people wanna keep hounding on this amazing car maker.

Does Hyundai have any original ideas or designs? I hate this auto company with a passion.

looks like a 7er BMW from the back... almost 1:1 copy....

the idirive joystick is also very BMW like.... copy cat delight...

everyone knows an idrive system is the future for all automobiles but no one admits it because their pissed that BMW was the first to do it.

the lines which create the interior dash are ripped from an S class. whats that symbol on the steering wheel?

haha youre funny..not. Its the same symbol found on the previous generation Equus (its predecessor).

OMG! Isn't there a Copyright law? Recently, one of the Toyota executives made a statement about hyundai being a company whose gonna probably give them a run for the money. But, how could you even say that when these guys are only concerned about others have in mind, or even what other companies have designed. SHAME ON YOU hyundai! Why don't you come up with your own designs and stop copying BMW, TOYOTA, HONDA, ETC....?

jajaja a BMW cheaper jajaja PLEASE copyright law were are you? this "car" is a mix of other cars

Are you people kidding me..Honda ripped off the Sonata with its recent iteration of the Accord. And the interior is from the Azera with the exception of the idrive feature (which is not exclusive to BMW). I have an 07 Audit A6, which has an idrive interface. It is a breath of fresh air not having to pay $50k large for a nice, reliable sedan. You people should stop imitating what you read, because most of it is garbage. Think for yourself..now that's an idea!

JohnnyG
November 27, 2007 8:33 PM
IT's more like the Sonata was a copy of the Accord.

I totally agree with your comment...Toyota/Lexus made a name for itself slavishly copying Mercedes Benz...now Toyota is copying the styling of BMW...but judge the car on its merits and engineering not on the name of the car maker...

November 28, 2007 7:39 PM
Didn't the new Sonata pre-date the new Accord by a year? I agree that Honda ripped off Hyundai on that one.

Don't know why I am wasting my strength to reply to you, but the Sonata was released before the Accord.

I even want to comment on the written commentions. We all know, that the korean carcompanies don't be able to be unique. They design their cars of inspiration about many european creations. But I think most of you guys only see, what you want to see for make your anger about Hyundai stronger and stronger. I don't see bmw taillights or a 7er back. The "Hofmeisterknick" called windowshape in the reardoors are the only thing I whould call a BMW-signature. The car isn't a milestone of design, but give them a chance, it's not the worst.

When a european manufacturer copies an other manufacturer from our little continent, it is a process of culture, but what Hyundai does is theft, it's criminal.

November 28, 2007 3:54 AM
So culture isn't allowed to spread past the European borders? That's some real common sense there.

Looks more like Hyundai copied Infiniti's M45. The gearshift knob looks like the one on the Lexus LS, but the tailights and the dash look very similar to those on the M45. The front looks too similar to that of the LS and that little BMW trademark on the greenhouse line is quite annoying. I'm dissapointed that Hyundai couldn't have shown more in terms of originality. This should still be a nice car because Hyundai is well known for its quality. Also, the Equus looked much more elegant than this.

What I don't get is that they even copied the 5 series down to the roof fin. I see shades of Ssangyong.

Im curious how this sedan is going to be under 30,000 when the Azera is over the 30,000 dollar mark with just a few ad ons..This range is pushing to high for a Hyundai (for a few extra thousand i could get the new CTS). Once again this is another car from them them doesn't have a brand identity that they need (dodge has the cross Lincoln waterfall grill, etc...). This company has a been on a bad trend of coping designs

idrive is junk so why put it in a copycat car other than to copy. Hopefully they do it better

Before you guys bash on this car, and hyundai, maybe you should wait until you see it in person. BTW, remember when Lexus came out with it's first gen LS? What everybody said about Lexus being A Mercedes wannabe? So just shut up and give this car a chance; it will only get better from here! FYI, Hyundai outsourced the exterior design of this car... Yes it could be better; but it could also be a lot worse!

im wondering how many of you actually know about car..so dont talk like you are Chris Bangle..LOL.just wait and see it in person first and talk later.

Looks like the took a Lexus LS, BMW 7-Series, Infiniti M, and Mercedes S-Class and played mix-and-match. Not a very cohesive result.

as much criticism this car might get, i bet it would look like a rolls-royce if you run it on the streets of new delhi.

I'd actually drive this over a Lexus any day.... Now if only it had a better front grille than that wide gaping uglyness - the rear looks alright (I thought it would look better), but the front is something I just can't tolerate. If they could take the front of the current Sonata and sexify it a bit and mix it with a slightly modified Azera rear they'd have a very pretty sedan. And that V8 sounds like a pretty good effort for a Korean brand. Most people are already judging this car negatively before even knowing how it'll be, but I personally predict good things for Hyundai and this car in particular, since they're moving up in the world, and fast....

The Sonata looks like a cross between an A4 and an Accord...A-Sonataccord! This car, I'd call it a BMexus or a LexMW...depends on which end you look at first I guess. Too bad its so damn good lookin...

Although many of you say this car's design is a mix and match from the European market. I don't see a problem with that. Yes, the design of a car is one of my consideration when choosing a car. But most important is the engineering effort that the company has put into it. Hyundai has always had a bad name of bad safety rating and making crap cars, but this is definitely one big step forward for them. I bet they put a lot of effort into putting this car into the market. I'll give them kudos for pricing this car around $30k. You can't get something like this value for money in the market at the moment. The closest cars that comes to this price will be Camry or Accord, but they wouldn't provide those features you saw in those pics would they?

no doubt, they have come a long way. the quality of their products is getting much better and they are starting to really compete with honda and toyota. and their warranty, in the states, is excellent and very compelling. a little originality would be good though. the coupe genesis is a step in the right direction. if only they could keep the carbon hood and orange paint!

Just imagine that this is a new Lexus, lets say GS and there is Lexus logo all over the place. What would you say after that? Would you be so pissed of? I don't think so. It's all about perception I guess.

GeeDougg
November 30, 2007 4:44 AM
Actually, I personally would be even MORE pissed off, because Lexus has been copying the German luxury marques far longer than Hyundai, and even now Hyundai isn't really CLEARLY copying; they're sort of mixing and matching a bit, but it doesn't look nearly as much as a ripoff as the average Lexus. Funny enough, I think you could pass this off as a unique-looking Lexus if you rebadged it.
