Will Lewis Hamilton Ever Win F1 World Title?

Lewis Hamilton in McLaren Mercedes F1

When Jenson Button first came onto the F1 scene there were glimpses of a potential top driver, but unfortunately that has never materialised and he is left nursing his wounds at Honda. Now with the emergence of F1s newest superstar Lewis Hamilton, it appears Jenson's jealousy has got the better of him, in an interview with the UK's “mail on sunday”.

“He's a great driver, but there are lots of great drivers in Formula One who did not have his package”, Button was quoted as saying believing Lewis has lost his only chance to win the world title. But to write off the young Brits chances so early in his F1 career would be a little premature, especially considering he has just completed the most successful rookie season in Formula 1 history.

It remains to be seen how well Lewis recovers from the major disappointment of losing the title to F1 rival Kimi Raikkonen, the flying Finn could go from strength to strength after a hugely successful end to his season and dominate for many years to come as Michael Schumacher did with Ferrari. And should we discredit the challenge of Alonso, that must depend on how competitive his new team (probably Renault) will be.

Let us know what you think – comment below, was this Lewis' last chance to win the F1 title?

I agree. Jenson is only negged out because he's a waste of space, and Hamilton is ripping it up on the track giving so called veterans the scare of their life in his first year in F1. Hamilton has serious potential and is a force to be reckoned with in time to come.

No he wont! As long as there are Finns on F1, Hamilton has no change!! It will be Raikkonen for 2007-2010 and then Kovalainen continuess. Sorry Hami - you can always go to DTM =)

jenson has a point there, u can put any f1 driver in a mclaren and they will be on the front row of the grid everytime, you put alonso or hamilton or kimi in a spyker and they will struggle to get into the top 10...the sport greatly depends on the packagain you have

I will ask something else. Do you know someone in this age, in his first year in F1 to have achieved so much and to attract the interest from the media? I am a Ferrari fan but from this championship i will remember Hamilton's pedigree. Sure this kid has future.

Who had the same fantastic debut season? Villeneuve, for example. But although he won the title, if you ask anyone now, the answer will be that Jacques is the worst ever f1 champion, major disappointment and not doesn't deserve to be named "Villeneuve". I really don't understand that. In contemporary F1, the package you depend on is the most important thing. Sadly, but things are just like that nowadays. Old fans of F1 remember, that things haven't always been like that...

The fact that he drove for McLaren as Alonso did, and managed to stay ahead of Alonso the whole season tells me that Hamilton capable. I think he's talented enough but it all depends on who he'll drive for in the future. If he lands a deal with Spyker or Toro Rosso, he won't win a championship. But as long as he drives for a top tier team, there's a chance...I think.

Winning the championship, doesn't mean to be a Champion.... I can't compare Hamilton with Alonso or Raikonen... he is far in the back

Well, I like this sport as many others and I'm not in the F1 competition to say which one is the best, but if I was Jenson Button(considering that he had only one title in his entire career and his first championship was the worst), I wouldn't say that about Lewis. Jenson probably forgot the meaning of respect when he decided to make those comments cause in the begining of this season who ever expected Lewis to do what he did? It's true, he shouldn't lose the championship like that, but he still have a long life not to do those mistakes again, so if he already did all of this (although loosing the championship), imagine what can he do next if he stays focus on his objectives(having a good team work from McLaren of course).

Schumacher is one of the best driver of all time, he's german...yes but he's not a racist like you bluemagic/silversedanman. Maybach is german and it's one of the best ultra luxurios car ever made..true, but it's marketing/financial flop by Mercedez-Benz. The company's struggling to improve the sales that's why it keeps introducted the S and the and the Landaulet. And lasttime I checked, the german government started posting speed limit in many strecthes of the autobahn. How the heck is all this related to the topic? Oh and Ayrton Senna and Mika Hakkinen might have their argument who the best is.

Micheal Schumacher is OBJECTIVELY (not subjectively) the best driver of all time because he holds virtually all records possible. He has won more races than anyone else and of course is German (like the luxury cars that ride your ass)

And who did Schumacher drive for? Ferrari right? Italian? And how's BMW doing in F1? Who's the best is still and always will be a SUBJECTIVE argument stupid. I like Schuy too as I'm sure most people on this site do. The topic is whether Hamilton will win a championship you idiot. Read the topic and keep your freaking racial, discriminating slurs out of it.

I think that hamilton is like ayrton senna in the 1986 championship but hami has a better and more competitive car.He will surely have many chances in the future to win a world title

We can see that Lewis is quite a driver with his maturity in skills and road handling... now all he needs is the time to prove it! I do agree that what package's being offered is a major deciding factor whether he can win a driver's title or not. Sure a costly mistake had ruined his run for the championship. BTW, what really happened in the scandal? dirty fuel?!!

Lewis never been a champion. He win 20 points in the offices. Pathetic action of a "truly" winner.
