It seems whenever there is some hot car floating around out there, rumors begin to fly about how the automaker plans to keep that car fresh in everyone's mind. The Audi R8 is no different.
Speculation has been out for quite some time that Audi was considering an R8 convertible. Audi has certainly not confirmed this to anyone. Certainly not helping matters is the belief that Audi will make a pretty strong unveiling at the LA Auto Show in a few days.
In response to the rumors, or possibly fueling them, some new renderings of a proposed R8 Spider have been floating around a few web sites. We stumbled upon these at Autogespot. They have a few more Photoshops on their sites.
One thing is for sure: we will be waiting (im)patiently at the Audi stand on November 14th at 11:10am California time when they begin their presentation to the media.

I really hope this won't be a failure like the Mercedes SLR Roadster. Roofless cars like these are much more for show than for performance, which really defeats the purpose as these are meant to be performance cars and the removal of a roof is known to have slightly detrimental effects on a car's performance.

SL benz convertable makes over 600HP and has massage along with cooled seats. The finest german autos ofcourse.

And who are you to decide. You have not seen or even driven neither (the R8 Roadster hasn't even been made yet!). The SLR is also probably 3 times as more expensive. And the original SLR was a failure, thats why they made the roadster, to increase sales. The SLR was a big mistake for mercedes, a fact that some of you German fanatics don't seem to get through your thick heads.

Just saw a real R8 on I-95 two days ago. Wow..what a stunning looking car.It's a beauty. Not as loud as a Lambo but it's still super loud. Just awesome.

This car is already 135 Kg more heavy than the Gallardo!! and now it is convertable !! that`s an extra 100 Kg. God help its 4.2L 414 poor horses.
