Conjecture and speculation is running rampant around WCF on the news that BMW will introduce a new concept derived from the 1-series at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show.  According to Automotive News, BMW plans to show off the new car during their 11:30 a.m. press conference in Tokyo on October 24.

Our first thought was that BMW would show off a design for the X1 SUV crossover.  That guess was ruled out by the last line of the article:

"But a BMW spokesperson denied it would be the X1 small SUV."

A convertible based on the 1-series is a distinct possibility.  So too is a 1-series hot hatch.

Odds are some more details will come out in the next ten days, but until then we would love to hear your guesses as to what this new concept could be.  Fill out a comment and let us know what you think!

It will be the z2! Why not? We've known a smaller z-roadster has been in the works for quite a while, and it would only make since that it would be somewhat based on 1-series technology (if not the 1-series platform itself).

It's not an SUV... It's not a convertible (already been shown off)... It's not a hatch (both 3 and 5 door are already on sale in Europe)...

A roadster? An M1 (or whatever it'll be called), anyone?

It will be 1 series 4-door sedan as it is mostly demanded in Asia, the biggest growing market such as China, India and also already emerged but shrinking market like Japan as well.

I think WCF just used this picture from 2002 to illustrate the point of a new small concept car, since they have not seen it either. I remember when this picture came out, it signalled the new 1 Series to come.
