A prototype for the Mercedes SL Black Series has been spotted on public roads around the Nürburgring, in preparation for some hot laps later this week. This is the most wicked SL ever conceived, with optimum performance its top priority.

Huge flared fenders are likely created with ultra-light carbon fibre, to reduce weight and to accommodate this car's enormous wheels and tires.  The roof on this SL has been converted into a fixed coupe roof, also crafted in carbon fibre to lower the Black Series' center of gravity and further reduce weight.  Exactly what engine mods have been employed here are uncertain, but you can be sure it's insanely powerful.

Our spies will be hot on the tail of the SL Black Series, so keep an eye out for more pics from the Ring.

It's about time the Merc got an agressive look.

Looks like the front lights will resemble more of the CLS. I like the current front end look better.

If they actually build this car, why would any one want an SLR?

Thats an SL. The SLC is expected to have around 900HP.

This car is going to bee a pure monster - which will practically kill everything else, typical of Merc's and SL's, just wait.....

The car was tested extensively at the Nurburgring with DTM Mercedes ace Bernd Schneider behind the wheel.

On the final production version, the rear wing will be telescopic and can be lowered and raised with automatically or at a touch of the button. The bootlid is made from carbon fibre of course.

The black lines on the roof are actually thin tapes to fool observers into believing that its a 'normal' vario-roof SL. Also, look carefully at the rubber seal (it is actually a single piece of rubber instead of three) that runs along the roof and you'd know that its a fixed roof car.
