Ahead of the premiere of Mitsubishi's tenth-generation Lancer Evolution at the Tokyo Motor Show in October, Mitsubishi has released an interior shot of the U.S.-bound Lancer MR and a few exterior pictures the Lancer GSR that is destined for the Japanese market. The Lancer Evolution X is based on the Prototype-X concept showed at NAIAS in Detroit in January 2007.
Although Mitsubishi has been quiet about any official details on the Lancer Evolution models, an Evo X test drive in the November issue of the Car and Driver magazine reveals that both the GSR and MR are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 295 bhp and puts power to the wheels through Mitsubishi's new four-wheel drive system.
Perhaps most interestingly, the new Evo MR features, in place of the five-speed manual in the Lancer GSR, an all-new Twin Clutch SST dual-clutch sequential gearbox. Despite being slower from naught to 60 mph (5.0 seconds) than its predecessor, the Evo X should offer better grip and handling than the Evo IX.
