The covers have well and truly been lifted off Citroen's four-seater concept car, the C-Airscape, soon to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. These "official" photos, supposedly leaked to automotive magazine AutoWeek.nl, preview the sleek lines and premium packaging of the upcoming Citroen C5, the finished product of which has itself already been leaked.

Earlier in the year, we brought you sneaky pics of Citroen's mid-range saloon, re-entering the market to tackle the likes of Ford's new Mondeo and the forthcoming Vectra. The C5's debut was expected to be scheduled for Frankfurt, although Autoweek.nl maintain that a Geneva Motor Show unveiling is more likely. But exclusive of the 6 month advance on the C5's styling, the C-Airscape may very well have its roots in previewing a new convertible C5.

Following in the footsteps of sister manufacturer Peugeot and its 407 Coupé, the C5 is likely to spawn a production version of the C-Airscape concept car, not only introducing an entirely new model to the C5 range, but taking the firm upmarket. Front styling echoing Pininfarina's 406 Coupé and Audi-esque rear styling suggest Citroen want to take on the Germans with improved packaging and stunning good looks.

it looks very nice and of all the french car companies its citroen thats on a role at the moment. it really has the creativity in the styling department. renault lots its way after the megane as the new laguna is a monstrosity, and peugeots have looked ridiculous for years now now that pininfarina doesnt have a hand in the deisnf process. i dont think they (citroen) can take on the might of the germans though. we all know that realistically ever going to happen, especially if you emulate germanesque design cues. oh dear. the cracks in french flair is starting to appear....

My opinion is that Citroen must procced to a higher level of market segment. They have to build premium cars without leave the innovative technology and modern extraordinary design. But they have to improve quality. I hope the new C5 will help to this and this Airscape will go into production. After all every one who wants a cheap car can buy a Korean one with 7 years quarranty. But there is a segment of market out there that wants a premium French car and not a German one. Please managers of Citroen (and Peugeot) consider my words!
