With the i30 being Hyundai’s first hatchback/wagon developed specifically for European tastes this estate variant, snapped in the U.S. earlier today, takes on the new VW Golf Variant and Opel Astra Caravan. However, Hyundai recently announced for the US market an Elantra Touring model. When compared to the released design sketch (see Elantra Touring link), there is clearly a strong resemblance to this i30 but with sporty disposition. Hyundai had stated they were pursuing a combination of high-function and fun-to-drive character with a “sport suspension and steering tuned for greater response and handling” with the Elantra touring, so its quite clear the i30 will be received as the sporty Elantra Touring in the states.
Although the i30 wagon has already been revealed with minimal photos, here are first clear shots of the i30 wagon in full view. Featuring the same 2.65 meter wheelbase as the hatch, the estate’s extra room will have to come from the cars longer rear overhang and a higher roof line. In Europe, engines will be taken from the standard i30, which include petrol engines with 1.4, 1.6 and 2.0 litres capacity (109, 122, 143 bhp) and diesels with 1.6 and 2.0 litres (116 and 140 bhp).
