Mini to get Stop-Start and Regenerative Braking as of September

According to Automotive News Europe, all new petrol- and diesel-powered Mini hatchbacks with manual transmission will as of September be equipped with “stop-start� and regenerative braking. These energy-saving systems will help push down the carbon-dioxide (CO2) emissions in the 1.6-litre 109 hp Cooper-diesel by 13% from 118g per km to 104g km, matching the CO2 emissions of the Toyota Prius. The revised Cooper-diesel will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show, starting on September 13. Sources also suggest that Robert Bosch, who currently supplies stop-start and regenerative braking systems to BMW’s 1-series, will also supply the systems to the Mini. BMW is expected to introduce a 3-series with the same energy-saving systems in Frankfurt.
