The design: a beautiful expression of space ...
Designed by the Peugeot Design Centre the 207 SW with its stylish lines that define a compact balanced shaped which is just begging to be used. From the design of the front it shares with the hatchback, this original design with its bold expressive lines combines a number of stylish design features: a large glazed surface area, rear quarter panels reminiscent of those of the 407 SW, a two-colour “arrow profile created between the rear quarter panel and the elongated ruby-red rear lights. The rear lights which extend back along the rear wings and then disappear echoing the elongated lines of the front headlamps. And at the back, the promise of accessible space and durability makes a powerful comparison to the front and helps create the equilibrium of the design. The true signature of the 207 SW is the completely red rear light assemblies with their smooth lens and diode-effect with metallised segmenting of five lighting functions. The rear lights give the appearance of cut rubies and seem to support the large dark tinted rear tailgate glass, whose visible hinges have a highly polished finish. The view across the car emphasises the potential space available inside. On many versions, the fitment of roof bars, combined with the large glass panoramic roof or not, add a touch of originality and style.Architecture and structure - the vehicle’s personality
The 207 SW, together with the other 207 silhouettes, share the PSA Peugeot Citroën group’s No 1 platform, which ensures the high standards of this range in terms of safety, dynamic performance and driving pleasure. This new 207 benefits genetically from the other 207s, which it exploits by strengthening certain favourite themes - brightness, space, interior comfort, practicality and ease of use - within a well designed stylish silhouette that expresses both elegance and dynamism. The application and success of the design is due to the comprehensive adaptation made to the original architecture and structure of the 207 hatchback. Even if the 207 SW is similar to the hatchback - the design of the front, its substructure as far as the floor pan, its body as far back as the B posts (except the roof); it includes the following specific features:- a “magic folding mechanism for the rear seats, the new 207 SW rear floor area is an extended version of that found on the 207 CC;
- loading capacity and adaptability - a major feature of this type of vehicle - created from an extended version of the hatchback rear substructure and boot floor;
- to reconcile the demands of design and space, the roof profile and length are specific to this silhouette (an all steel roof or large glass panoramic roof);
- to provide easy access to the load area, the 207 SW has a new enclosed rear aperture structure that also increases overall rigidity;
- to ensure the dynamism and originality of the design, a specific superstructure with inverted rear quarter panels and triangular rear windows combined with a generous curved rear tailgate glass have been used;
- for the equilibrium of the design, the rear doors originate from the five-door hatchback as far as the window line, but are slightly more vertical at the top to increase the glazed area and side vision;
- to increase the practicality of the design, the tailgate has a glass that can be opened independently. This feature is available as standard or as an option.
Balanced dimensions ...
The length of the 207 SW is 4.156 m (or 4.149 m with the “classic front). Since the front overhang and wheelbase is shared with the hatchback, the difference compared with the hatchback is an increase of 119 mm in the rear overhang. The width of 1.748 m (at the level of the door handles) is the same as that of the 207 hatchback. The height is 1.510 m, which is an increase of 38 mm to that of the 207 hatchback. With roof bars, the overall height reaches 1.527 m. As a reminder, the dimensions of the 206 S W where as folows:- Length 4.028 m (199 mm more than the 206 hatchback, increased rear overhang). The 207 SW is 121 mm longer.
- Width 1.664 m. The 207 SW is 84 mm wider.
- Height 1.444 m (with roof bars). The 207 SW is 83 mm higher (with roof bars).
Interior dimensions favour space and comfort ...
The specific profile of the roof - steel or a glass panoramic roof - and the fact that it slopes further at the back compared with the hatchback improves rear headroom:- In the front, there is a 17 mm gain in interior space.
- In the back, the new arrangement of the seats raises them 20 mm compared with the hatchback, thereby creating an “amphitheatre effect that improves the passengers’ forward view, but there is still a noticeable increase in the headroom inside the vehicle - 24 mm in fact - compared with the hatchback. Not only are the rear seats raised, but their locating points have been moved back 15 mm, increasing the passenger compartment length to 1694 mm (compared with 1675 mm in the hatchback) and also providing more leg room.
