Mazda2 at a glance
- First presented at this year’s Geneva Motor Show
- First model of a further developed generation of Mazda cars
- All-new sub-compact car that ends the trend towards larger and heavier automobiles
- Almost 100 kg lighter than its predecessor, but also 40 mm shorter at 3.885 metres (wheelbase is the same, at 2.49 metres)
- Low fuel consumption (up to 15 percent less than its predecessor) thanks to weight and length reduction
- Use of high-tensile steel with benefits in terms of weight, but as well in safety, body shell rigidity and NVH performance
- Weight considerably less than a ton, at 955 kg (with the 1.5-litre, 960 kg)
- Production in Hiroshima, Japan
Exterior
- Design creating an impression of athletic movement
- Excellent drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.31
- Sports Appearance Package (depending on market) including side spoilers, a lower front spoiler, a special upper grille design and a rear roof spoiler
Interior
- Very good interior space for its compact size and a fairly good-sized boot volume of 250 litres (VDA)
- Shift lever integrated into the centre console
- A 40 mm lower beltline in comparison with the outgoing model and a lower positioning of the side mirrors for increased visibility diagonally to the front and down
- Small turning circle of 9.80 metres only
- Headroom (1,004 mm in the front, 959 mm in the rear) and shoulder room (1,340 mm in the front and 1,300 mm in the rear) amongst the best in the category
- Practical storage compartments with an open magazine rack and a floor console
- Lowered cabin noise (only 71.1 dBA at 60 km/h)
- Stereo system with MP3 CD playing capacity and AUX jack for external MP3 players
- Equipments : Available are 15 or 16-inch aluminium wheels, cruise control, manual or automatic air conditioning, power windows front and rear, fog lights, rain and light sensor, seat heating and leather steering wheel with leather shift knob, board computer with adjustable speed warning system, Keyless Entry & Start System, auto light and auto wiping system (according to grade and markets)
Powertrain
- Petrol engines with sequential valve timing (S-VT) system between 75 and 103 PS at launch: 1.3-litre 55 kW/75 PS and/or 63 kW/86 PS (depending on market) and 1.5-litre 76 kW/103 PS (features variable induction system)
- Excellent fuel consumption (5.4 litres of fuel per 100 km for the 1.3 (combined) and CO2 emissions values (129 g/km for the 1.3)
- Fuel-efficient turbo diesel 1.4-litre MZ-CD to come a few month later
Chassis and safety
- Electric power-assisted steering system
- ABS with EBD and emergency brake assist, dynamic stability control available and traction control for active safety
- Crash-resistant survival cell, seatbelts with pretensioners and load-limiters, front airbags, front side airbags and curtain airbags, Isofix anchors for a baby seat for passive safety
