Mystery Mercedes AMG to Debut at New York

On April 4th, Mercedes AMG is set to reveal an all-new AMG model at the New York Auto Show. An anonymous reader sent us these images which are posted in the Mercedes AMG Private Lounge web site for AMG owners only. They don't reveal much, but look pretty sweet.
In the past Mercedes has revealed AMG models at NY such as the CL 65 (W215) and SL 65 in 2004 and E 63 in 2006. But which one could it be? Perhaps new generation W216 CL 65, CLS 65 or even an E 65?
We currently know the new W204 C-Class which debuted in Geneva a few weeks ago is expected to make its market debut towards the end of this coming summer in the US. Therefore, New York would be the most likely event to make its North American public debut since there are no more major auto shows until LA in November. With that in mind, it is highly probably the mystery AMG will be the new 2009 C 63 AMG model. Other supporting evidence includes this image above taken from the AMG Private Lounge site which shows the side profile although covered with a blanket. The general contours appears to resemble the new the C-Class.

Seems to be a coupé, can't be a CL, the front don't match, and lookin' at the details, and the fact this it has been on testin' for a while now, it's very probably the CLK 63 black series

MB still doesn't get it. There numbers are sliding, the products are shakky at best. They could unveil a rocket car and it still wouldn't matter. So when you buy a 165K dollar car, you get the same service as a c-class? At least that is what I found out here in NJ. This was my 5th MB, and it will be my last.

Guys, Guys, come on! It is 100% obvious. This will be the "teaser" for the upcoming W204-based CLK coupe....mercedes has already released images of the W204 with the AMG sport package so the C63 is old new...but the W204 CLK63...that's new, and it is one of MB's most profitable cars. Note the 1 set of doorhandles, and in the third picture of the back quarter panel, you can see a line that is not on any other benz, save for the new C-class.

I gotta say its a Cl 63. Long hood, one door handle. Also the front end on the new Cl looks alot like the CLS, at least the grill, which the above pic looks like. dimensions just dont look like a CLS. check out the pics, MB must have lost their minds putting that much carbon fiber on a C-class. peace out

It cant be the CL. Its shorter than the CL. It may be a brand new coupe, maybe an E-class sized coupe...

Its way too short to be a CL, ...or a CLS for that matter. And its too big to be the new SL.

Its not big for the SL...its just that its 100% a Coupe..This shape is not the shape of a Roadster. Its too short for a CL and i believe its bigger than a CLK.

The SLS is supposed to be a McLaren like the SLR so it cant be presented by AMG. Also...the SLS is supposed to be a mid-engined car. This one is 110% a front-engined

i think it might be a cl... but the tyres seem like dtm tryes.. can it be a cl dtm? i am saying it's a cl beacause of the back bumper, and the lenght of the car's window.. both of the cl's charachterstics... so i am not sure f it's possible but i am asuming it's a dtm cls

Guys, I'm telling you...this has to be a brand new model that MB has been keeping under wraps (pun intended). The CLE (or whatever MB will call it) was first spotted testing right after the CLS was announced. Trim off the camouflage on the pic in this link and you'll see it matches up to the NYIAS car very closely:

Oops...wrong article;;yes that's the CLS. But the car I'm thinking of has been spoken of more recently in Automobile magazine: http://www.automobilemag.com/future_cars/2008/0604_2008_mercedes_benz_cle_class/
They used to have a CGI of the new model, but its been taken off their site, even though the blurb is still there.

Judging by the carbon fiber on the air vent in the front bumper, it's clearly a more expensive or exclusive model. In addition, it's clearly a coupe (the new C-Class has a longer rear-deck), but it's smaller than a CL. So, CLK Black Series sounds about right to me.

But the picture showing the rear end is really confusing. I agree with your theory heat_fan1 but that rear end is not even close to the CLK C209

That is the new CL65! Look at the rear fender to trunk lid picture. No other car has that body line except the C216. I'd put money on it.

I don't see how it can be a C209. The dimensions would be out of porportion on the deck lid.

This looks like a CL65. One thing i dont think fits is the rear lights. I looks like its lower than the CL. But I really think its the CL 65. Thats the biggest coupe in the Mercedes line up and that looks like a huge car

It's not a CLK BLK series,the front wheel arches wud protrude more distinctly and the car would be sitting on a much lower suspension. Based on the dimensions its easy to assume its the C-CLass AMG but the door handle throws you off.But could be a four door with a "secret" door handle similar to the Alfa156 Like the other dude mentioned the car appears to be floating could just be a marketing stunt to get us so called enthusiats exited... CLE makes sense,but why talk bout an AMG if the standard model isn't yet near production unless I'm miss-informd. Conclusion....NEW Upcoming CLK AMG

whatever it is its on a C-CLass platform,which leaves it to be one of the following :C-CLass,CLK,CLE. The picture duznt giv u tru proportions/perspective of its size,so we could all be wrong and it ends up a S-class derivative. But thoz hu tink its an SL must stop smoking what their smokin>>>DRUGS ARE BAD!!!!

That rear picture is the most confusing. Can anyone figure out what the second picture is? Could it possibly be the new mini-supercar that's been long rumored? Could be too high for that. Guess we'll just have to wait.

the body def. looks lik a clk..the structure is too tall to be a cl and the cl also has a more flowing curved shape, tho i don't see the point of adding another amg to the clk line

The biggest clues are the single door handles and the carbon fibre touches... Yes its a coupe,I still think its not defined enough or low enough to be the CLK black series...but everything points me to that direction

There's no doubt that is a CLK Black series - based on the carbon fibre use, the outline of the front wheel arch, the obvious large rear spiler and the bits of wheel that you can see - very similar to the SLK Black series on the background.

This seems to me to be a CLS model. The spoiler in the back, the front fenders give a bit away. I am not able to explain the lack of the rear door handle, although it could easily be a trick from AMG.
The point is, this has to be an existing model already in production. The new "surprise" factor is the engine. Therefore, I say this is the CLS with the new bi-turbo 6.3 liter v8. In other words, one of the HAMMERs.

its not a CLS for sure... this is a proper coupe with two passenger doors.. the CLS has 4. my say this is the new C-class W204 coupe (a new model, unlike the 203 C sports coupe which is a hatch), that will rival BMW's 3 E92 coupe and audi's A5/S5... which could probabably be the new CLK in AMG suit.

1. too long and big to be an slk. 2. not the new c63 because u can clearly see that its a coupe 3. its not a c coupe becuse, again, its too big. 4. its not a new model that they are hiding. my father works for mb and his training for this season would have included any new model line.

It a CL65 is the closest for a few reasons 1. The shape is more aerodynamic to be a CLK 2. They advertise it to be the next big thing and it is more a CL than a CLK.
any way I am holding my budjet for about two years waiting for the next CL65 and if it was a Special Edition too... WOW I'll book one right away.

After looking at the pictures of the newly redisigned C-Class I am positive that it is the C-Class AMG because if you look at the back of the car, you can see a little curve upwards and it ooks like that on the pictures also. (Its a spoiler)

The absence of rear door handle makes us think it is a coupé, but the shape of the car doesn't... Looks like an E-class. For the moment I just can't make a decision.
But if we look at the details, we can think it is a "Black Edition" model. The CLK black edition prototype has been on Testin' for quite a while now so maybe...
