Volkswagen is currently doing final retouches to a new Golf estate/wagon which is expected to go into pre production at VW's Puebla plant in Mexico mid 2007. Initially, VW did not intend to make a wagon variant of the Golf V because they had already added the Golf Plus. However, due to pressure from Volkswagen dealers and customers it was finally decided to make a new "variant" after all.
The new wagon is based on the VW Jetta. It is measuring 4.55 meters in overall length with a wheel base of 2.58 meters, thus offering clearly more space than its predecessor. The new model's loading capacity is estimated to average between the Ford's Focus Turnier (1525 litre) and Opel's Astra Caravan (1590 litre).
A large selection of fuel engines between 102 and 200 HP and three Diesel engines (105, 140 and 170 HP) is going to be offered.
The photos are showing two computer images suggesting how the wagon will look like upon its release.
