First spy shots of the upcoming BMW X6, a crossover SUV, has been spotted testing around the Munich headquarters. It's obvious the car has a sloping coupe-like roofline, but it is hidden by heavy disguise. No clue on how the rear design looks, but the disguise makes it look like the Z4's rear lights. While originally the X6 was said to be a Mercedes-Benz CLS fighter, now it seems a little strange to have a 4-door coupe competitor standing like an SUV or crossover which more likely points towards a Mercedes' R-class competitor instead.
While at first people have been skeptical on BMW entering a non-sedan segment for fear that it will dilute the Ultimate Driving Machine experience. However, most are now convinced that BMW can make an MPV or a crossover SUV go like a sedan that handles very well. That will be a seriously amazing display of engineering if in fact it becomes true. Longer and lower than the brand-new X5, this crossover will seat only four. But what the sporty X6 loses in seating, it will gain in performance. Expect it in 2008.
