The name's Citroen, 2CV Citroen
Forget the iconic Aston Martin, James Bond fans around the world have voted the Citroen 2CV as the best car ever from which the fictional British secret agent slipped shaken, but not stirred after an epic car chase.
The French superstar was revealed by a survey carried out by the British TV network Channel 4 as the world prepares for the launch of the latest Bond film, Casino Royale. The Citroen 2CV took nearly a quarter of the votes for its role in the 1981 film 'For Your Eyes Only' with Roger Moore at the helm.
The 2CV sequence, which helped rake in a cool $194m in the box office originally, saw Bond abandon his venerable Lotus Esprit for a bright yellow 2CV in order to escape hitman Hector Gonzales and his henchmen. After jumping over several roads, shaking apple trees much to the appreciation of the people apple picking, and rolling the car twice, Bond managed to outsmart the henchmen.
The car in the film was fitted with the flat-4 engine from a Citroën GS for slightly - very slightly - more power. The staring role in the lead to a limited production 2CV in the 1980s, the "2CV James Bond" which, although fitted with the standard flat-2 engine, was painted in yellow with '007' on the front doors and fake bullet holes.
Second place equal after the Citroën came the Aston Martin DB5 from the film Goldfinger and a Russian T55 tank that featured in Goldeneye, driven by Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan respectively.
