Press Release
Investment total of EUR 150 million
At the beginning of September, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart started work on construction of production facilities for the Panamera Sports Coupé at its Leipzig factory. “We are fully on schedule with work on the new production hall, logistics center, and the extension of the assembly hall,” remarked Managing Director of Porsche Leipzig GmbH, Siegfried Bülow. The factory extension is due to be completed by the end of 2008.
A production hall covering around 25,000 square meters and a logistics center with an area of 23,500 square meters are being constructed for production of the Panamera, whose market launch is planned for 2009. The existing assembly hall will also be expanded to include a test and analysis center and a training workshop. Piles are currently already being put in place to improve the load capacity of the new halls. The next stage of building work will involve construction of the building shell and steel framework along with work on the roof of the assembly hall and the logistics center, with installation of the production facilities set to follow during the course of 2008. All the construction work will be implemented in parallel with ongoing production activities and will have no adverse effect on day-to-day operations. The sports car manufacturer is investing around EUR 120 million in the new production facilities and a further EUR 30 million in the logistics center, bringing the total investment to EUR 150 million.
Production of the new sports coupé will also create 600 new jobs at Porsche’s site in Leipzig. The first positions, which are being advertised on the Internet, have already been filled. However, the vast majority of the new positions will not be advertised until 2008.
